THE UNIVERSITY EMBLEM
 The emblem of Assiut University (AU) is embodied in a shield depicting the disc of Akhenaten's sun to symbolize the ancient Egyptian era. Rays of the sun flow on the university's name which is written in    Kufic letters to denote Arabian epoch. These rays extend from the sun disc in the form of human hands offering benevolence and welfare. The letters of the university's name are soaring high towards sunliglit.
ASSIUT UNIVERSITY (AU)
Assiut University was inaugurated in 1957 to encourage research, education and community services in Upper Egypt. It is located in Assiut City which is 375 km south of Cairo. The University comprises sixteen faculties and two higher institutes. The faculties are those of: Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Commerce, Education, Law, Physical Education, Social Work, Arts, Nursing, Specific Education, Computer and Information Sciences and finally the faculty of Education in the New Valley Governorate . The two higher Institutes are those of Sugar Technology Research and South Egypt   Cancer   Institute.   Languages   of Instruction are Arabic and English. Admission requirements for the undergraduate level are the Egyptian Secondary School certificate or its equivalent, student's place of residence and the regulating decrees of the Supreme Council of the Egyptian Universities. The university provides over 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in art, science and technology. Many academic centers are also affiliated to AU to serve specific, goal-directed functions. Large number of students and staff members are accommodated within the university campus. Two other universities emerged from Assiut University's flagship campus and are now independent universities: El-Minia University and South Valley University. The university is a member of
 International Association of Universities (I.A.U.)

     Dr. Soliman Hozzayen was the first president of AU and  Prof. Ezzat Abdalla Ahmed is the current and tenth president.

1. B.A. in Arts, law ,& Education(Literary) Duration of study for this degree is 4 years .
2. B.Sc. in Science, Agriculture, Commerce Education (Scientific), Physical Education Specific Education, Social Work, Nursing & Computer and Information Sciences Duration of study for this degree is 4 years.
3. B.Sc. in Engineering, Pharmacy & Veterinary Medicine. Duration of study for this degree is 5 years
4. B.Sc. in Medicine & Surgery. Duration of study for this degree is 6 years.
5. Specialized Diploma.
6. Master degree
7. Ph.D. degree.

 A Brief Idea About Some Centers

1- Language Centers :
These Language centers (English, French andGerman)   offer   Language courses   for postgraduate students and for the public.  They also give specialized courses applied for by companies and other institutions.

 2-Center for Environmental Studies :
This center supports the effort exerted by the university in environmental services . The center publishes Assiut University Bulletin for Environmental Studies and supervises the planning and holding of conferences   fora better interaction between the university and  the environment.

 3-Center of Assiut University Network "AUN":
This center presents its services, in collaboration with the National Network for Information , to the university staff and researchers.

4- Center for Futuristic Studies :
The objective of the center is a think -tank for futuristic studies such as scarcity of water, technological changes and women development as well as the population issues.The center undertakes the tasks of making research in fields which are directly related to the future of development in Upper Egypt especially the development of human resources and preparation of the future leaders.    The center ' has recently prepared pioneering studies in the fields of Social and National Security as well as preparation of leaders.

5-The University Educational Hospital
This hospital , with 2027 beds , is the largest one in Upper Egypt . This year it has offered medical services for nearly a million patients in the Out - Patient Clinic and Emergency Unit . All beds are free except for 160 beds which are
private and for insured patients. The hospital presents the most recent medical services through The Intensive Care Unit , The Renal Dialysis Unit , The Cardiac Catheter Unit and The Linear Accelerator. 240operations, lOOmajor and 140 minor, are daily carried out.  University Address: Assiut University
