The Center for drug DiscoveryAssiut University
Is one of the university unitsdirected by the university-vice president for postgraduate studies andresearch. The Unit staffed officially according to the agreement of hisExcellency Professor Dr. Minister for education and the president of supremecouncil of universities in February 2nd 1997.
The unit is temporarily locatedin a special research laboratory in the central building of Assiut University.

The objectives of the center for drug DiscoverCDR
The objectives of the centerare to encourage and activate the following aspects:
1- Research projects aiming tointroduce new drugs of natural and synthetic sources.
2- Research projects for studyingside effects and toxicity of approved drugs.
3- Coordination between researchaffiliations interested in drug applications and development.
4- Quality control and qualityassurance of drugs commonly used in the university hospitals as well asthose developed in pharmaceutical industries.
5- Consultants of technical andscientific studies to whom interested in drugs research and development.
Research Manpower and tools
1- The researchers and academicstaff members in the scientific departments of the faculty of Medicine;Pharmacy; Veterinary medicine and Science.
2- Some research utilities currentlyavailable in the center such as high-pressure liquid chromatography apparatus;Triple-roller mill for preparation and admixing of solid powders; Mixersfor formulation of liquid and semisolid formulations. In addition, otherresearch facilities currently available in Assiut University can also beavailable.
1- The center has succeeded infulfilling the requirements of the university hospitals of most of theantiseptic preparations such as Povidone-Iodine; Savlon; Zinc sulfate oralsolution.
2- Some veterinary preparationsfor community service such as antiseptic ointments; solutions and oralpreparations.
3- Drug Analyses for determinationof the antibiotic contents in poultry meat samples.
4- Determination of catecholaminecontents in human plasma samples.
5- Currently, it is planned tostart a programm to carry out the quality control and quality assurancestudies for some newly approved pharmaceutical preparations.
6- It is also planned to issueThe CDR-Bulletin for drug information and the recent trends in drug discovery.
