About Department

-Mining Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the practice, theory, science, technology, and application of extracting and processing minerals from a naturally occurring environment. Mining Engineering also includes processing minerals for additional value.

-An Engineering student must first pass the preparatory year, then, enroll in the mining and metallurgical Engineering Department. The required period of study in the department is four years in order to obtain a Bachelor degree in mining and metallurgical engineering.

History:

In 1957, the Department of Mining and Metallurgy Engineering was established, with the support of Dr. Mohamed Zaki Hathout. In the academic year 1958/1959, the study begun, and the number of enrolled students in that year was 29.

The number of students gradually increased to reach 159 students in the academic year 1966/1967, 159 students in the academic year 1997/1998, and 355 students in the academic year 2006/2007.
