 Tissue Culture Unit Achievements

 

1. A training program on plant tissue culture and genetic engineering techniques for young scientists ( lecturers, lecturers assistants and lab instructors ) of Upper Egypt universities( South of the Valley, Sohag, Elminia, Assiut, and Azhar-Assiut ).

2.An intensive training program on tissue culture techniques for candidates ( lecturers, lecturers assistants and lab instructors)  of Fayoum university.

 3.Germplasm conservation of some new lines of sweet potato  produced from a project supported by Assiut university( PI, Dr. H.A. Hussien ).

4.An article on genetically modified potato resistant to PTY virus, Published in  the Egyptian Journal of Genetics ( January 2008) and The Second International Conference on Genetic Engineering and Its Applications, Sharm El-Sheikh, Nov. 2006.

 5.APh.D.dissertation on in vitro new introduced grape rootstocks and their tolerance to salinity and drought.

 6. A M.Sc. thesis on in vitro embryo rescue of the mutation Hozaien nabaq

( Zizyphus spina-christi L. ).

 7.Presenting 3 papers in The First International Conference on Biotechnology in Fruit Species ( BioFruits ) held in Dresden, Germany during 1 – 5 September, 2008:

a) Micropropagation of Zizyphus spina-christi and its in vitro tolerance to salinity and drought stresses.

b) Introducing new genes into Thompson Seedless grapes.

c) In vitro propagation of some new introduced grape rootstocks and their tolerance to salinity and drought stresses.     

8.The approval of new proposal ( Egypt- USA Joint Projects) on germplasm conservation of some indigenous fruit species in Upper Egypt.
