Body surface cysts in some farm animals

The aim of the present study was to determine different kinds of cysts present on the body surface of some farm animals with special reference to diagnosis and treatment. The present work was carried out on a total number of 94 animals of different species (Buffaloes=5, Cattle=18, Sheep=5, Goat=34, Camel=13, Horse=5 and Donkey=14) suffering from different kinds of cysts on the body surface. All cases were collected during periodical visits to veterinary clinics in 168 villages at 14 provinces in Egypt during the period from 1994 to 2007. Diagnosis was established depending on case history, location, clinical signs, exploratory puncture and histopathological examination of excised cysts. Different kinds of cysts on the body surface were diagnosed namely; Dermoid (36), Branchial (7), Dentigerous (2), Tassel or Wattle (32), Thyroid (15) and Interdigital (2). Aspiration and injection of medicaments were performed for treatment of thyroid cysts; incision and evacuation were applied for treatment of dermoid cysts while surgical excision was done for many cysts such as branchial, dentigerous, tassel, interdigital and some dermoids. The results of treatment were encouraging without postoperative complications. In conclusion we can state that different varieties of cysts were observed on body surface in some farm animals and nearly all of them can be managed. اكياس سطح الجسم فى بعض حيوانات المزرعة

 الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تحديد الانواع المختلفة من الاكياس التى تصيب سطح الجسم فى بعض حيوانات المزرعة و بالاخص تشخيص و علاج هذه الحالات. تم اجراء هذا البحث على عدد 94 حيوان من الفصائل المختلفة(جاموس = 5 و ابقار =18 و اغنام = 5 و ماعز = 34 و جمال = 13 و خيول = 5 و حمير = 14) تعانى من وجود انواع مختلفة من الاكياس على سطح الجسم و تم تسجيل هذه الحالات اثناء الزيارات الدورية للوحدات البيطرية فى عدد 168 قرية تابعة لعدد 14 محافظة بجمهورية مصر العربية خلال الفترة من 1994 – 2007 و قد تم تشخيص هذه الحالات اعتمادا على تاريخ الحالة و الاعراض الكلينيكية و البزل الاسكشافى و الفحص الهستوباثولوجى للأكياس المستأصلة و تم تشخيص انواع مختلفة من الاكياس على سطح الجسم منها الاكياس الجلدية (36 ) و الاكياس الخيشومية (7) و الاكياس السنية(2) و اكياس شرابة الرقبة (32) و اكياس الغدة الدرقية (15) و اكياس بين السلاميات (2) و قد تم علاج الاكياس الدرقية بتفريغ محتويات الكيس و حقن بعض الادوية كما تم علاج الاكياس الجلدية بفتحها و تفريغ محتوياتها او ازالتها جراحيا. كذلك تم علاج الاكياس الخيشومية و السنية و شرابة الرقبة و بين السلاميات بالأزالة الجراحية الكاملة و كانت نتائج جميع العملايت الجراحية مشجعة و بدون حدوث اى مضاعفات.
