The unit was set up in December 1995 by Dr. Tarek Abdalla
professor of Orthopedics, who received his clinical microsurgical training at the
Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital, in Taipei, Taiwan. The first microsurgical
performed was lateral arm flap to the hand. The first fellow was Dr. Amr
Ali, current lecturer of Orthopedics, who majors in lower extremity
following tumor resection. The surgical team has rapidly expanded to include six
practicing surgeons in addition to one clinical fellow/year.
