This hospital is the first specialized center in Upper Egypt designed to raise the standard of women to do her duties actively in the society.  Patients usually come from Assiut as well as from other governorates of Upper Egypt, including Red Sea areas and New Valley.

The main objectives of the hospital are:

1.     To provide integrated health care at its different levels (primary – secondary and third level).

2.     To expand the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology to include reproductive health from all different aspects.

3.     To increase the number of hospital beds to cope with continuous increase of deliveries, this will improve maternal and perinatal health  and help in reducing maternal/perinatal mortality and morbidity.

4.     To increase the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities and adopt modern technology in the field of reproductive health and initiate sub-specialty units to provide this recent technology.

5.     To collaborate with Ministry of Health and Population, national and international organizations involved in women’s health to support and maintain better health services.

6.     To educate and traine the health team workers on the current and new health services.

7.     To introduce counseling and advocacy as integral part in  women’s health services.

8.     To perform clinical, social and field research related to women’s health to upgrade health services.

9.     To initiate a new model centers to provide integrated health care in the society (rural and urban areas).  This example should be followed and repeated to demonstrate how to provide medical care for women on the community level.  That model also serve the purposes of education and training medical students, nurses and other health workers from within and outside the university in collaboration with Community Health Department and Ministry of Health and Population.

10.       To insure medical ethics and women’s rights.

11.       To promote integrated health services within university hospitals, special collaboration with pediatric, community medicine, psychiatrics and andrology departments.

 

Attention should be given to the registration of all data on women’s health either in hospital or society to make necessary data base for appropriate health decisions and policies.  This serve as indicator of the state of health for evaluation of the applied health services.

 

The hospital situated in the main University Campus, parallel to the main University Hospital and behind Pediatric Health Hospital connected to it in the ground, first and second floors.  Also shared in the main public services as kitchen, laundry, central sterilization unit, store areas, garbage elimination, electricity generators, incinerator, post mortem room and parking.

 

The building consists of ground and 6 floors.  The number of hospital beds is 300, 80% of them for public and 20% for private and insurance.

 

I-  Ground floor

a)           Main kitchen and laundry.

b)          Sterilization unit: well equipped with new machines, ample, proper designed spaces).

c)           Emergency reception.

d)          Diagnostic imaging unit.

e)           Main and outpatient pharmacies.

f)            Outpatient clinics:

o       General

o       Specialized.

g)           Outpatient laboratory units:

o       Bacteriology and biochemical assay

o       Pathology

o       Cytology

h)           Teaching rooms, skill lab, health education and promotions.

 

II-  First floor

a)           Information and communication centers.

b)          Administration.

c)           Data and computer center.

d)          Hospital library.

e)           Conference rooms and audiovisual.

f)            Social studies and reproductive health units.

 

III-  Second floor :

a)           Inpatient rooms (antenatal – postnatal).

b)          Teaching rooms.

c)           Resident hostel.

d)          Teaching staff rooms.

 

IV-  Third floor :

a)           Labour ward (first stage rooms, delivery rooms, operative theatres for Cesarean sections).

o       Ultrasonography unit and fetal monitoring facilities.

o       Recovery rooms.

b)          Intermediate and intensive care unit.

This floor connected directly to Neonatology Unit of Pediatric Hospital by closed tube (sky-way).

 

V-  Fourth floor :

a)           Gynecology operative theatres.

b)          Endoscopic operative theatres

o       Laparoscopy:

o       Facilities for tele-surgery.

c)           In-patients rooms for one-day surgery.

V-  Fifth floor :

a)     In-patient rooms for gynecology pre- and post-operative.

b)    Teaching rooms.

c)     Teaching staff rooms.

d)    Assisted reproductive technology unit, specially designed and well equipped.

 

VI-  Six floor :

This floor is totally selected for private health services including the followings:

a)           32 beds (air conditioned rooms with bath-room inside)

b)          Operative theatres department include (3 delivery rooms, operative theatres for minor surgery and endoscopy).  Two operative theatres for Cesarean section and gynecological surgery.

c)           Ultrasonography and fetal monitors facilities.

d)          Medical staff and administration rooms.
