Assiut University Showcases Its Key Contributions and Active Participation in the Presidential Initiative “A New Beginning for Building the Human Being”

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, received a comprehensive report highlighting the university’s major contributions to the presidential initiative “A New Beginning for Building the Human Being,” launched in September 2024 and implemented over a 100-day period. The initiative featured a wide range of activities and events carried out in cooperation with government entities, civil society organizations, and the private sector, reaffirming the university’s developmental role in promoting human well-being at the health, social, and economic levels.

Under the supervision of Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the university organized 62 on-campus activities, 21 off-campus events, and 15 developmental workshops and exhibitions, directly benefiting 11,563 participants.

In coordination with the Governorate of Assiut and various development institutions, the university launched several integrated development convoys to support underserved villages and communities. These included:

  • Dental convoys to the Family Health Units in Tasa (Sahil Selim District, 115 cases) and Arab Motair (El-Fatḥ District, 200 cases), providing both treatment and awareness services, with complex cases referred to the University Dental Hospital.
  • Veterinary convoys to the villages of Reefa (933 cases), Masraa, and Bahiig, in cooperation with the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine.
  • A mental health support convoy for women across three villages (Beni Hussein, Awlad Raik, and Masraa), serving 200 women and girls.
  • A medical and awareness convoy in Sanbo village (250 beneficiaries), held in partnership with Hayah Karima and Misr El-Kheir Foundations.
  • A social support convoy titled “Together for a New Opportunity” for children at the Social Defense Foundation in El-Fatḥ District.

The university also launched the “Qualitative Beginnings for Community Benefit” workshops in several schools across Assiut, alongside children’s festivals focusing on sports, culture, and health through the Faculty of Early Childhood Education. Other activities included an art festival for children (ages 3–10), creative workshops for children and individuals with disabilities (handweaving, sign language, music), and training workshops for preparatory and secondary school students organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts.

Assiut University also participated in the Islamic Advocacy Week under the theme “Islamic Creed: Its Concept and Characteristics” in cooperation with Al-Azhar scholars, and launched several fitness and community initiatives such as “100 Days of Sports”, “Be Fit”, and the “Creative Human Festival.” The university held 43 scout training programs, 29 guiding sessions, and various awareness campaigns including:

  • “Postnatal and Post-Abortion Family Planning Methods” workshops
  • Pink October” early breast cancer detection campaign
  • First aid training sessions
  • Awareness seminars in collaboration with the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority
  • A marketing exhibition for family and student needs
  • The “Who Are We?” initiative, organized in cooperation with Yaro and Misr El-Kheir Foundations, which engaged 500 children in activities to promote awareness of Egypt’s cultural heritage.

Professor El-Minshawy affirmed the university’s dedication to supporting presidential initiatives, praising the efforts of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector led by Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem. He also participated in the launch ceremony of the initiative held in front of the Assiut Governorate headquarters, attended by Major General Hisham Abu El-Nasr, Governor of Assiut.

The university’s contributions further included seminars on the dangers of illegal migration, field visits (such as to Mohamed Naguib Military Base), lectures on cybercrimes, a “Career Path After Graduation” employment day, and religious and educational workshops across several faculties including Science, Education, and Veterinary Medicine.
