South Egypt Cancer Institute Organizes Seminar “Your Health is a Trust” to Raise Awareness of Cancer and Its Relationship with Nutrition

The South Egypt Cancer Institute at Assiut University organized a seminar titled “Your Health is a Trust” to raise awareness about cancer and its connection with nutrition.

The event was attended by Professor Mortagy Abdel Raouf, Director General of Preaching; Sheikh Sayed Abdel Aziz, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Family House; members of the teaching staff, physicians, administrative staff, as well as representatives from the Egyptian Family House in Assiut and civil society organizations.

Speakers included:

  • Professor Adel Gabr, Professor and Head of the Department of Oncology
  • Professor Lama Mohamed Ali, Nutrition Specialist at the South Egypt Cancer Institute

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, highlighted the importance of the seminar, which aimed to introduce the latest developments in cancer awareness and its relationship with nutrition. Discussions covered methods of cancer prevention, modern nutritional approaches, health education, early detection, and psychological support for patients in advanced stages.

Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem emphasized the institute’s educational and community role amid the increasing prevalence of cancer, stressing the importance of such seminars in enhancing community awareness and contributing to Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Mohamed Abu El-Magd praised the university administration’s support for research, educational, and community initiatives, affirming the institute’s commitment to providing community service and psychological support to cancer patients.

Professor Amr Farouk noted that the institute provides medical and diagnostic services to patients across Upper Egypt, and that the seminar is part of the university’s broader efforts to enhance awareness and present recent advancements in the fields of oncology and nutrition.

In his talk, Professor Adel Gabr discussed cancer prevention, the role of diet in reducing cancer risk, and the importance of early detection. He also outlined the major causes of cancer, including viruses, bacteria, radiation, chemical and genetic factors, hormones, and dietary habits. Furthermore, he highlighted the state’s efforts through the Presidential Initiative for Early Cancer Detection, covering breast, colon, cervical, prostate, and lung cancers.

Professor Lama Mohamed Ali presented healthy nutritional practices for cancer patients, the essential medications they require, and the types of unhealthy eating habits to be avoided.
