Assiut University Among the World’s Top Universities in Six Academic Disciplines in the 2025 Times Higher Education Subject Rankings

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced a new achievement for the university in international rankings: Assiut University has been listed among the world’s top universities in six academic disciplines according to the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject.

The university achieved the following positions:

  • Social Sciences: Ranked 801–1000 worldwide — for the first time.
  • Computer Science: Ranked 601–800
  • Engineering: Ranked 601–800
  • Life Sciences: Ranked 601–800
  • Physical Sciences: Ranked 601–800
  • Clinical and Health Sciences: Ranked 801–1000

Professor El-Minshawy stated that this accomplishment reflects the university’s continuous efforts to advance scientific research and increase international publication, thereby strengthening its academic reputation and global standing.

Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, emphasized that this progress underscores the university’s commitment to enhancing research outputs, building the capacities of young researchers, and maintaining sustained academic and research development.

Professor Omar Shaaban, Director of the Office for International Academic Rankings, explained that the Times Higher Education ranking is based on five key criteria and thirteen indicators, which include research citations, research impact, publication volume and reputation, institutional income, teaching environment, and the results of Thomson Reuters surveys conducted with 20,000 researchers worldwide. The evaluation also takes into account the number of doctoral degrees awarded, the faculty-to-student ratio, the proportion of postgraduate to undergraduate students, and the university’s income and overall budget.
