Department of Chest Diseases History

The chest department was separated in 1982 from the internal medicine department. In 1985 the chest department expanded and became affiliated units such as the Respiratory Functions Unit and outpatient clinics, headed by Mr. Prof. Hammad Al-Shahat Hammad Ali; then the expansion continued in the chest department headed by a group of professors: Professor Dr. Ahmed Hamed Mohamed Othman, then Professor Dr. Olfat Mostafa El-Shennawi, followed by Prof. Ashraf Zein El-Abidine and then Prof. Dr. Gamal Mohamed Rabie Agami.

The Chest department became a pivotal department and it includes a wide Varity of units, such as:

  1. Breathing Functions Unit
  2. Sleep Research Unit
  3. TV scan Unit
  4. Intensive care unit
  5. Thoracoscopy Unit
  6. The unit of the chest section is for men and women
  7. Outpatient clinics
  8. The pulmonary artery hypertension unit is currently under construction
