Our university offers and encourages sustainably farmed food on campus by:
Sustainable Sources:
The Faculty of Agriculture's farms, which include the animal production, vegetable, and fruit farms, provide the university with a significant portion of its food supply. A portion of the farm produce is delivered to campus dining services, while the remainder is sold through the Faculty of Agriculture's outlets.
Animal production farm: it is about 12 acre and providing campus with fresh milk and fresh meat
Vegetable farm: it is about 13 acre and providing with varieties of fresh vegetables.
Fruits farm: it is about 23 acre and providing with varieties of fresh vegetables.
% of all food purchases on campus come from local or PA suppliers
Reduction of Food Waste:
The university applies composting programs for food wastes, converting organic waste into compost that can be used in campus gardens or local agriculture.
Education and Awareness:
Sustainability Education: The university incorporates sustainability education into its courses and campus life, teaching students about the importance of sustainable food systems and responsible consumption.
Cassava Cultivation Project:
Assiut University established a research-based cassava cultivation program to produce gluten-free flour and support food security. This project aligns with sustainable development goals and modern agricultural practices.
Rooftop Farming Initiative:
The university launched a rooftop cultivation project to grow vegetables, medicinal, and aromatic plants on campus buildings. This initiative supports food security, reduces climate impact, and promotes sustainable agriculture practices.

Assiut University has policies that support sustainably farmed and sustainably sourced food on campus through sustainable procurement practices, prioritization of local food sources, support for local farmers, and promotion of sustainable food choices as part of its SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) commitments.
