Using the Organic and Bio-fertilizers as a Partial Substitute for Mineral-N in Williams Banana Orchards

Research Abstract

This study was carried out during two consecutive seasons of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 on the third and fourth ration of Williams banana plants. The plants are grown in a private Orchard located at Kom Ombo city, Aswan Governorate, Egypt. The compost as an organic fertilizer, enriched with EM or bio-mex was used as a partial replacement for the mineral-N fertilizer. The experiment was set up as a complete randomized block design. The results revealed that using the recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) via 25% as a mineral source and 25 to 50% as an organic one enriched with 50 or 25% of EM or bio-mex significantly enhanced the length and circumference of pseudostem, leaf area and total leaf area/plant as well as percentage of N, P and K of leaves compared to use the RDN only as a mineral N fertilizer. Also, the N fertilization with a combination of mineral and organic N sources with a bio-fertilizer significantly increased the bunch weight and hand weight consequently increased the yield/plant, as well as improved the fruit quality compared to use the RDN only as a mineral source. The promotion on such growth and fruiting traits was associated with increasing percentage of bio-form from 25 to 50%. The organic fertilizer enriched with bio-mex significantly stimulated these traits more than its use with EM. It is evident that such N fertilization program is very important for the banana fruit production. It improve the nutrient status, yield and fruit quality of banana plants. In addition, it minimizes the production costs and environmental pollution which could be occurred with using chemical fertilizers

Evaluation of Some Seeded Dry Date Palm Grown Under Aswan Climatic Condition

Research Abstract

This study was carried out through 2014 and 2015 seasons to evaluate some seeded dry date palm grown in Aswan governorate, Egypt. Their local name, Abd elnaby 1, 2, 3, El-masry 1, 2, Khaled ebn elwalid, Abas gaffer, Radwan and Ali Aamer date palm compared to Sakkoty cv. which is one of the commercial dry cultivar vegetative traits. Yield components and fruit quality as well as numerical evaluation and molecular genetics were investigated. The obtained results indicated that Ali Aamer date palm type had the highest values of most studied vegetative traits compared to the other studied types. On the other hand, the least values of such traits were recorded of Sakkoty cultivar. El-masry 2 type gave the highest yield components followed by Khaled ebn elwalid and Radwan types, whereas, Abd elnaby 1 gave the least one compared to other studied types. No significant difference was found among Abd elnaby 2, Ali Aamer and Sakkoty cultivar. Khaled ebn elwalid type had the highest values of fruit quality followed by El-masry and Abas gaffer types, whereas, Sakkoty cultivar gave the lowest one compared to the other studied types. As the numerical evaluation of date palm types, it could be arranged in a descendingly order as follows: Khaled ebn elwalid (86.2), El-masry 2 (84.4), Ali Aamer (81.5), Abas gaffer (80.9), Radwan (77.9), El-masry 1 (77.3), Abd elnaby 3 (76.8), Abd elnaby 2 (72.7), Sakkoty (68.2) and Abd elnaby 1 (67.7 units). The ISSR data were used to estimate the genetic similarity among the nine date palm strains by using UPGMA computer analysis. The highest similarity index (1.0) was recorded between Abd elnaby 1 and Abas gaffer, while the lowest similarity index was detected (0.0) between El-masry 2 and Ali Aamer. A dendrogram for the genetic relationship among the nine date palm strains was found. These results revealed that seeded date palm named El-masry 2, Abas gaffer, Khaled ebn elwalid, Ali Amer and Radwan are considered promising to be new strains to obtain a high yield with good fruit quality compared to Sakkoty date palm cultivar

Effect of GA3, Calcium Chloride and Vapor guard Spraying on Yield and Fruit Quality of Manfalouty Pomegranate Trees

Research Abstract

This study was carried out at the Experimental Orchard, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, Egypt, to study the effect of GA3, calcium chloride and vapor guard spraying on fruiting of Manfalouty pomegranate during 2014 and 2015 seasons. The experiment was set up in a complete randomized block design with three replicates, one tree per each. GA3, calcium chloride and vapor guard spraying significantly increased the yield/tree compared to unsprayed ones. GA3 spraying gave the highest yield followed by calcium chloride. On the other hand, all treatments significantly decreased the fruit cracking percentage compared to unsprayed ones. The least fruit cracking was recorded due to calcium chloride spraying. All treatments significantly increased fruit weight and fruit dimensions as well as aril percentage and juice contents compared to unsprayed ones. Moreover, calcium chloride and vapor guard significantly improved the fruit chemical constituents, whereas, GA3 spraying decreased the chemical fruit constituents compared to unsprayed ones. It could be concluded that spraying Manfalouty pomegranate trees with calcium chloride at 40 or 80 ml/L at 1 st July was necessary to get high yield, reduce the fruit cracking percentage and improve fruit quality

Improving Nutritional Status and Productivity of Balady Mandarin trees using some Biostimulants and Antioxidants,

Research Abstract

This study was conducted during two successive seasons of 2018 and 2019 on Balady Mandarin trees, 20 years old budded on sour orange rootstock and planted at 5×5m apart. Grown at the productive farm located at Shandawel Island, Sohag governorate. This experiment aimed to study the effect of active dryyeast, ascorbic acid, vitamin B complex and their combination on yield components, alternate bearing and fruit quality of Balady Mandarin cultivar grown under Sohage conditions. The obtained results showed that using of active dry yeast at 10g/l (as soil application) as single application or in combination with ascorbic acid and vitamin B complex at 1g/l from each (foliar application) caused a pronounced increasing of fruit numbers, fruit weight (g) and yield (kg). The later also improved fruit quality in terms of TSS%, TSS/acid ratio as well as total sugars, vitamin C content and reducing total acidity of Balady Mandarin fruits. According to results of the current study it could be concluded that using active dry yeast at 10g/l (as soil application) as single treatment or in combination with spraying ascorbic acid (1g/l) plus vitamin B complex (1g/l) three times on the first week of May, July and September led to improve both yield and fruit quality of Balady Mandarin Cultivar under Sohage environmental conditions.

Effect of spraying gibberellic acid and caffeic acid on yield and fruit quality of White Banaty (Thompson Seedless ) grape cultivar.

Research Abstract

This experiment was carried out at the Experimental Orchard of Assiut University, Faculty of Agriculture during two successive seasons 2018 and 2019 on 13 years old grapevines of White Banaty (Thompson Seedless) grape cultivar. The experiment aimed to examine the effect of GA3 at different concentration (10, 20, 40 ppm and 10 +20 + 40 ppm) and caffeic acid as alternative, safety compound at different concentration (1, 2, 3 g / litter and 1 +2 + 3 g/Litter) on yield and fruit quality of Thompson Seedless grape cultivar. The obtained results revealed that spraying the clusters with GA3 at 10 + 20 +40 ppm gave the highest values of yield components and increased total acidity % while it decreased fruit quality. On the other hand, spraying caffeic acid at 2 g/Litter at full bloom was effective in improving yield, bunch, berry weight and berry quality.This study concluded that the beneficial effects of spraying caffeic acid (CA) at 2 g/Litter at full bloom as a new alternative compound to improve yield and fruit quality of White Banaty (Thompson Seedless) grape cultivar.

Behavior of Barhee date palm cultivar produced by using tissue culture technique and grown in different regions of upper Egypt.

Research Abstract

This study was conducted during 2017 and 2018 seasons on Barhee date palm cv. (Phoenix dactylifera L.) at the age of 18 years, grownin three regions of Upper Egypt i.eMatana, Luxor Governorate; Kom- Ombo and Toshka, Aswan Governorate to evaluate its vegetative properties as well as physical properties and determination chemical composition of fruits. The obtained results revealed that, there were significant differences between the vegetative characteristics of date palm Barhee cv. as a result of different weather conditions of locations conducted study.The palms grown in Matana region recorded the largest values of the palm girth, number of leaves, length of the leaf and leaflet, leaflet area, spines number and area, while the lowest values of these parameters were obtained the palms grown in Toshka region. There are significant differences between the yield components as a result of growing Barhee in the three regions of Upper Egypt. The date palm grown in Matana recorded the largest values related to the number of bunches, the percentage of the initial and horticultural fruit set, the weight of the bunch, as well as the yield/ palm, while the lowest values were obtained in the case of Barhee grown in Toshka. There were significant differences of both physical and chemical fruits properties harvested from different regions of study. Barhee in Kom-Ombo region recorded the largest values of fruit length, fruit shape index, fruit weight, specific gravity of fruit, weight and percentage of flesh in the two study seasons.the highest values of TSS percentages, total and reducing sugars, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium content and lowest tannins content .On the other hand, the highest values of non-reducing sugars, the highest moisture content, and the lowest acidity were obtained in the case of Barhee in Toshka region. Generally, the productivity and quality of Barhee palm could be arranged descendinglly as follows: Kom-Ombo, Matana and Toshka.

Effect of some Plant Extracts Spraying on Growth and Fruiting of Flame Seedless Grapevines.

Research Abstract

The present investigation was carried out during 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons to study the effect of plant extracts on growth and fruiting of Flame Seedless grapevines. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design in which the study involved seven treatments with three replications, two vines each .Pruning wood weight, leaf area and leaf chlorophyll were significantly increased by spraying either garlic, turmeric or roselle extracts compared to unsprayed ones. Spraying garlic, turmeric or roselle extracts were very effective in improvement the yield/vine and cluster traits. Moreover, these treatments significantly improved the berry quality in terms of increasing the berry weight, total soluble solids and anthocyanin in skin of berries compared to unsprayed ones .The best results were obtained on the vines that sprayed with 0.2% turmeric extract .No significant differences were obtained among the tested extract. It could be concluded that spraying turmeric,  roselle  or garlic extract at 0.1% three times annually was necessary to get high yield with good cluster and berry quality of Flame Seedless grapevines.

Effect of gibberellic acid and jasmine oil on yield and fruit quality of Ruby Seedless grape cultivar.

Research Abstract

This experiment was carried out during two seasons of 2018 and 2019 on 25 years old grapevines of Ruby Seedless cultivar. Head training system was applied byleaving 36 buds per vine (18 fruiting spurs x 2 buds). Eight treatments of GA3 and jasmine oil as a single treatment or combined were evaluated. The experiment aimed to examine the effect of GA3 and jasmine oil on improving yield and berry quality of Ruby Seedless grape cultivar.The studied treatments increased the yield, cluster and berry weight. The best treatment in this term was spraying with GA3 at 20 ppm when berry size about 3 mm plus jasmine oil at 1.5 cm3/liter at the beginning of the veraison stage while the control vines gave the lowest values among all treatments.Jasmine oil as a single treatment was the best treatment in respect of TSS%, acidity, TSS/TA ratio and reducing sugars among all treatments.This study concluded that the beneficial effects of spraying jasmine oil at veraison stage as single or in combined with GA3 at 20 ppm when berry size about 3 mm to increase yield, berry and cluster weight and improving berry quality of Ruby Seedless grape cultivar.

Improving the quantitative and qualitative of Manfalouty pomegranate cultivar.

Research Abstract

One of the major physiological disorders for pomegranate cultivation is theexcessive of fruit cracking. lately, a pomegranate physiological syndrome called ‘aril paleness’ in which apart or all of the arils appear discoloration, affect the quality of fruit and such fruits are not desired forconsumer. The present research designed to evaluate the effects ofmethyl jasmonate (MJ), humic acid (HA) and potassium (K) on reducing these disorders and improving fruit quality. Seven treatments including MJ (5 and 10 ppm), HA (50 and 100 ppm), Liquid K (1 and 2%) and control, were tested on pomegranate trees spraying three times, at the beginning of flowering (during April), after full bloom (end of June) and before harvesting (mid-September), during the two seasons of study. Different parameters including yield, fruit cracking and fruit quality were measured. The obtained results indicated that spraying HA at 100 ppm and MJ at 10 ppm are considered the best in their effects on the yield components, fruit quality and anthocyanin content, however for decreasing the fruit cracking, it could be recommended to spray the fruits with K at 1% or MJ 10 ppm compared to the rest of the treatments.

Increasing of Nutritional and Added Values of Functional Kishk by Replacing Burghul with Broken Seeds of Faba Bean (Vicia Faba, L.) as Innovative Dairy Product

Research Abstract

Kishk is a natural functional food as minor constituents that are deficient in milk are supplemented by cereals. It also widely consumed in the diet of many people in the Middle East, especially Upper Egypt. This work was conducted at Dairy Department laboratories, Faculty of Agriculture, New Valley University as well as laboratories of Agricultural Research Center, Giza, Egypt. The aim of this paper is to investigate replacing bulgur by different percent of broken faba bean seeds (by-product) and type of milk on compositional, nutritional, microbiological, and sensory qualities of Saidy kishk to increase the added value viewpoint of economical and nutritional. The results indicated that there were a significant differences in physiochemical properties, i.e. moisture, ash, protein, fat, carbohydrates contents, pH and titratable acidity, essential amino acids, mineral contents such as Ca, Mg, K, Na, P and Fe, microbiological properties, TBC and LABC as well as sensory properties of Saidy Kishk samples as a result of replacing bulgur by different percent of broken faba bean seeds by 25 and 50% or change the studied milk type, i.e. full cow milk, skimmed milk or Laban zeer. This study concluded that Saidy Kishk samples manufactured from 50% B+50% Fb with skimmed milk had the highest values of threonine (3.75%), leucine (10.91%), lysine (6.47%), phenylalanine (5.33%), valine (4.88%), histidine (3.11%), Ca (319.67mg), Mg (172.00mg), K (1117.67mg/100g DWB) and Fe (7.19 ppm). Therefore, it is suggested that this formula of Saidy Kishk samples could be used to increase the added value viewpoint of economical and nutritional.
