Research Abstract
Background
A unimodal pre-habilitation program called nutritionally based pre-habilitation focuses on the nutritional readiness of women who undergoing gynecological malignancy surgery. Malnutrition is a critical issue in gynecological malignancy care, with studies indicating that 20% to over 70% of cancer patients suffer from malnutrition, which can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. In gynecological oncology, specifically, between 20% and 88% of patients may present with at least mild malnutrition at the time of diagnosis. Aim of research: evaluate the effect of nutritional based pre-habilitation on nutritional status among malnourished women who undergoing gynecological malignancies surgery.
Research design
A non-randomized controlled trial design was used to conduct the study.
Research setting
The study was carried out at Gynecological Oncology Unit at Women's Health Hospital’s at Assiut University in Egypt.
Sample
Purposive sampling contained 140 women divided into interventional and control group [70] woman in each group .
Study instrument
three instruments were used as: (I): A structured interviewing questionnaire, (II): nutritional assessment, (III): post- operative complication assessment.
Result
Based on Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) scores, women’s nutritional status significantly improved during post-operative and follow-up period (p = 0.007 , p < 0.001, respectively), while postoperative complications were reduced (p = 0.25)..
Conclusion
Preoperative nutritional based pre-habilitation enhances nutritional status among women undergoing surgery for gynecological malignancies …
