Assiut University is following and energy efficiency plan to decrease its energy consumption by 25% within 3 years after a decision from the university council in late 2019. This is also to follow the energy efficiency low released by the government in 2015.  During the past two years, the university had operated a group of energy saving activities in its management of all building and maximize dependance on the natural light that is available in Assiut through the whole year. This is maintained through replacement of any out of order equipment with new low energy consumption one and prevent activities that exhaust our energy resources (reports enclosed in Arabic). Furthermore, the university continued to measure CO2 emission 2021 and put an action plan to decrease. Assiut university and through its research labs share the government in research and activities to decrease CO2 emission.
On the other hand, the university produce a crucial rule to increase awareness of the community with the problem and get rid of the old polluting energy sources. In 2021 the university heald and international conference of renewable energy. Assiut University also have a specialized Energy Management Center (website attached) with a clear vision to reduce energy consumption and use of clean energy. In 2019, Faculty of Engineering established a regional center for development in the Field of new and renewable energy (website attached). Finally it is worth to  mention that AU won the second best environment friendly university in Egypt in 2020.
