The Social Activities Committee in the Youth welfare Administration is excited to host a chess tournament for all Dentistry students on Monday 10 October 2024 at 10:00 a.m. beside the Lecture halls.
Objective: This trial preformed to evaluate clinically and radiographically, the efficacy of growth factors producing/inducing materials; Advanced-Platelet-Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) and Metformin (MF) respectively, in the surgical treatment of intrabony periodontal defects.
Methods: Forty-eight systemically healthy chronic periodontitis patients with intrabony defect were divided equally into 4 groups. First Group, patients treated by open flap debridement (OFD). Second Group, patients treated by OFD + 1% MF gel. Third Group, patients treated by A-PRF, which inserted into the intra bony defect (IBD). Fourth Group treated by (1% MF + A-PRF). Parameters were gathered at baseline 6 and 9 months.
Results: The reduction in probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) was greater in the A-PRF + 1% MF patients group than other groups. Combination of A-PRF + 1% MF showed statistically significant reduction of IBD greater than all other groups.
Conclusions: Usage of combination of A-PRF + 1% MF seems to be superior in gaining bone than surgical treatment by OFD, OFD + A-PRF or OFD + MF only.
Background: adjunctive local periodontal therapy is one of the best options to improve the health of the pocket tissue. The comparison of local effects of simvastatin and metformin as aid in enhance the healing of periodontal tissue is the point of importance.Methods: atotal of 45 systemically healthy patients with mild to moderate chronic periodontitis; which having a generalized pocket depth varied from 3mm to 5mm. All patients handled by scaling and root planning and divided haphazardly into: group I, as a control group (n= 15), in which the patients treated by application of placebo gel; group II, (n= 15) treated with application of 1.2% simvastatin gel; group III, (n= 15), treated with application of 1% metformin gel. Clinical and biochemical criteria were collected at threshold 3, 6 and 9 months.Results: an advancement in both plaque and gingival indexes was noticed in total 3 groups at 6 and 9 months. Plaque Index and Gingival Index showed decrement in groups II and III than group I. The cutback in probing depth and clinical attachment loss was higher in the group III than other groups. Significant minimization in both IL-6 and TNF-α levels occurred from baseline to the end of measurement duration in all groups. Clear interaction was established amid IL-6 and TNF-α heights.Conclusion: metformin was comparatively better than simvastatin in respect of clinical and biochemical markers.
Objective: The objective of the present study was to compare the effect of mixing simvastatin with Nanobone graft on the healing process of extraction sockets regarding to the histological parameter.
Materials and Methods: In a prospective randomized clinical study, ten patients (study group, Group II) treated by simvastatin mixed with Nanobone after tooth extraction. The other ten patients (Control group, Group I) received Nanobone only. Three months after tooth extraction and socket preservation, histological biopsies were taken at the time of implant placement. The biopsies were evaluated in the terms of the histological parameter for the identification of vascularization and bone metabolism factors.
Results: The use of simvastatin combination results in slightly higher values of mineralized area of newly formed bone andnumerous well differentiated capillary vascularization.
Conclusion: Simvastatin and Nanobone combination showed improvement in socket preservation.
INTRODUCTION: Odontogenic tumors are a variety of oral lesions with clinical and histological variability. Some are benign, while others, like ameloblastoma, show infiltrative behavior. The most aggressive destructive odontogenic tumor is ameloblastic carcinoma. Diagnostic challenges arise in differentiating a malignant type from a classic benign ameloblastoma due to overlapping clinicopathologic features, prompting the use of immunohistochemical methods. KIAA0101, a nucleoprotein, is crucial for cell proliferation regulation, and its expression as a prognostic marker is being extensively researched in various human tumor sorts. However, its role in odontogenic tumors still needs more diagnostic research to be approved. Aim of the study: Evaluation of KIAA0101 immunoexpression in ameloblastoma and ameloblastic carcinoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty blocks of human odontogenic tissues, divided equally into enamel organs (serving as a normal control), ameloblastoma, and ameloblastic carcinoma, were included in the study. Sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin to determine an accurate histopathological diagnosis. Immunohistochemical analysis using the KIAA0101 antibody was performed using universal immunostaining techniques. RESULTS: Different immunoexpression of KIAA0101 were expressed in enamel organs, ameloblastoma, and ameloblastic carcinoma. The enamel organs showed the lowest expression levels, while the highest were detected in ameloblastic carcinoma. CONCLUSION: KIAA0101 produced a valuable indicator for tissue proliferation in ameloblastoma and ameloblastic carcinoma.
