Research Abstract

Aim: To assess the efficacy of Computer-guided open sinus lifting with simultaneous implant placement using a surgical guide versus the conventional technique.

Materials and Methods: Study was conducted as randomized control trail on 20 of patients were selected from the outpatient clinic of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University, and Assiut University. They are medically free patients seeking implant rehabilitation of posterior maxilla with pneumatization. These sinuses were randomly allocated into study group (A) 10 sinuses of computer-guided open sinus lift with simultaneous implant placement while control group (B) conventional technique. They have residual sub-antral bone height = 3 – 5 mm. Assessment of clinical parameters; intraoperative complications as Schneiderian membrane tear and bleeding, implant insertion torque, and surgical time. Assessment of radiographic parameters; preoperative, Postoperative, and gained vertical bone height measured by CBCT after 6 months.

Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in intraoperative complications and 50% of surgical time in computer guided group (A). While there was no statistically significant difference between the studied groups A and B as regards implant insertion torque and gained crestal bone height.

Conclusion: Computer-guided open sinus lifting technique is a double edge tool need to precise design and well-trained clinician to achieve accurate location of lateral windows and implants to avoid intraoperative complications with localized membrane elevation for a limited area in a short surgical time.
