Dr. El-Minshawy Commends the Success of a Medical Team at Assiut University Heart Hospital in Saving the Life of a Child Who Suffered From A Foreign Body In Her Bronchial Tubes, and Reaffirms the University Hospitals’ Support for Ministry of Health Hospitals to Serve Upper Egypt.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, praised the success of a specialized medical team from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University Heart Hospital in saving the life of a six-year-old girl who had been suffering from chronic respiratory symptoms for over six months due to the presence of a foreign body in her airways. The object was successfully removed while fully preserving the condition of the lung without the need for resection.

Dr. El-Minshawy affirmed that this successful intervention reflects the competence and expertise of the medical team at Assiut University Hospitals, which is distinguished by its high-level skills in performing complex and delicate surgical procedures, especially in critical and complicated cases. He also praised their quick response and careful handling of the case from the moment it was received until it was fully stabilized and recovered.

The University President pointed out that this success comes within the framework of the fruitful and continuous cooperation between Assiut University hospitals and the Ministry of Health hospitals, which aims to unify efforts and provide the best levels of health care to the people of Upper Egypt. He added that the university hospitals spare no effort in providing technical and advisory support to the Ministry of Health hospitals, within the framework of its pioneering community and developmental role.

The medical report revealed that the child had arrived at Assiut's Chest Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Zein, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, suffering from chronic chest infections and lung shunts. After conducting tests and x-rays, a foreign body was found inside her airways, and she was transferred to Assiut University Heart Hospital at Assiut University.

The medical team, led by Professor Dr. Mohamed Ayyad, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Dr. Mohamed Farouk, Lecturer of Cardiothoracic Surgery, along with a team of nurses and technicians, performed a diagnostic bronchoscopy, where it was discovered that a "pen plug" was lodged inside the airways, causing the child to suffer throughout that period. A delicate surgical intervention was performed to extract the foreign body with complete success, without any complications, to stabilize the child's condition and begin the recovery phase.

Dr. El-Minshawy reaffirmed that Assiut University Hospitals are operating at full capacity to provide comprehensive medical care and are committed to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Health to ensure the widest possible access to medical services across Upper Egypt, in line with the university’s mission to support comprehensive health development in the community.
