Under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, the University witnessed the opening of an art exhibition entitled (The Connotations of the Symbol to express the Palestinian cause in the scenography of the theatrical performance "Naima"), by Dr. Ghada Salah al-Najjar, assistant professor and head of the decoration Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, which is organized by the faculty in the Hall (1) and lasts for two weeks.

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy praised the art gallery, praising the efforts of the College in providing meaningful works of art that contribute to the development of community awareness and express national and humanitarian issues. He stressed that the university is keen to support artistic and cultural activities that contribute to improving their public taste and enhancing national belonging among students.

The exhibition comes under the supervision of Dr. Jamal Badr, vice president for graduate studies and Research Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Helmy Hefnawi, dean of the College of Fine Arts, and in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Abdul Hakim, vice dean for education and Student Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Badari, former dean of the college, Mr. Mohammed Juma, director of the art department at the General Administration for student welfare, the director of the theatrical performance, a selection of faculty members and staff of the college, and several students of the college.

Dr. Jamal Badr stressed the importance of the practical application of the theoretical study, as it shows the real impact of the study on the ground; through the results it provides that can be exploited and applied, which is reflected by the presentation of the exhibition of decoration, fashion and accessories designed by Dr. Ghada Al-Najjar, and carried out by students of the Expressive Arts Department of decoration, and students of the photography department, for the theatrical performance (Naima), which participated in the ibdaa festival organized by the Ministry of youth and sports, and the twelfth theatrical Creativity Festival at Assiut University.

Dr. Mohammed Helmy Al-Hefnawi explained that the exhibition is one of the exhibitions of promotions for faculty members of the college to the degree of Professor in the field of specialization, and aims to link the scientific study with the application, pointing out that the exhibition will be organized into a research paper, aimed at analyzing the significance of symbols in the scenography of this show, and exploring how to employ them to enhance dramatic messages, and is scheduled to be published in one of the specialized scientific journals.

Dr. Ghada al-Naggar pointed out that Naima's play is based on a famous folk epic from the Egyptian folk heritage, which was written by the poet Darwish Al-Assuiti and directed by the artist Mohamed Gomaa, director of the art department at the University. The events take place in one of the villages of Upper Egypt and combine different concepts (love, hatred, good and evil), and the conflict between them, and carry in its content symbolic dimensions and connotations expressing the current events in Gaza, Palestine, and the violations of human rights, killing and displacement of its people.

She explained that the decoration and clothing are some of the most important elements of the scenography in the theatrical performance, where the decoration succeeded in expressing the place of events and delivering specific dramatic messages, in three scenes: Hassan's house; in light beige to express purity, symbols and decorations painted on it in green to denote goodness and development, the door came to the entrance of the old house to represent the homeland, while Naima's house was executed in blue to represent hatred and conspiracy, and on the wall a symbol of the house key surrounded by chains that symbolize restrictions, and the third scene is water), which is a fence on the banks of the Nile, behind which parts of the sails of boats appear, one of which is shaped like a map of Palestine (Homeland).

She added that the clothes and accessories expressed the features of the characters, the character (Naima), the main character in the show, is costume of white, red, green, and Black; inspired by the flag of Palestine, and(Hassan) with his simple, dreamy personality wears a white robe and a distinctive Palestinian scarf to express peace and purity.
