Under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Social Work organized a workshop titled “Social Simulation for Raising Health Awareness Among Visitors of Assiut University Hospitals.” The event was supervised by Prof. Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Eman Abdel-Aal Ahmed, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Randa Mohamed Sayed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in the presence of a group of faculty members, their assistants, staff, and students from the Faculty.
Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that the workshop aims to promote health awareness among community members by providing proper health guidelines, correcting unhealthy eating habits, and highlighting the importance of early disease detection and regular medical check-ups to prevent health issues. He also noted that achieving health sustainability is a key priority for the university, which it strives to support through various awareness initiatives and activities.
The workshop included a number of interactive activities aimed at transferring health knowledge and enhancing communication with patients and their families, thus contributing to improving the quality of healthy life inside and outside the university community.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Aleem stressed that this event represents a pivotal step towards enhancing the role of social workers in the health field and achieving integration between social and medical aspects, explaining that social simulation is an innovative and effective method to raise health awareness among citizens, through interactive means that contribute to communicating health information in a simplified manner. He also emphasized the university's keenness to enhance its community role and provide an educational and training environment that supports the development of the skills of students and graduates, to enable them to make a positive impact on society and develop the environment.
In the same context, Prof. Eman Abdel-Aal pointed out that the workshop is part of the Community Health Education Training Manual at Assiut University Hospitals, which aimed to train more than 33 students to enable them to apply the concepts of social service in the health field. She added that the workshop featured social simulation models that reflect the real-life health conditions of hospital visitors through an interactive discussion between Prof. Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem and the students. The discussion focused on mechanisms for dealing with patients and effectively delivering health information, thereby fostering positive health behaviors and enhancing the quality of healthcare services provided.
