Diploma Degree

Assiut University grants, upon the request of the faculty board, Diploma Degrees in the following specializations:

  1. Science and Technology of Sugar Industry (Engineering - Chemistry - Agriculture).
  2. Science and Technology of Pulp, Paper and Board Industry.
  3. Science and Technology of Industrial Fermentation.
  4. Science and Technology of the Fertilizer Industry.
  5. Science and Technology of Oils and Detergents Industry.
  6. Science and Technology of Feed Industry.
  7. Science and Technology of Materials.
  8. Science and Technology of Sugar Industry (Environmental Sciences and Pollution Remediation).

The study duration to obtain any of the postgraduate diplomas is four semesters, provided that the minimum hours of study are 16 hours per week and for a period of 14 weeks in one semester. The study schedules are announced to students before the beginning of the academic year.

For a student to register for any of the postgraduate diplomas, the following is required:

  1. To be a graduated from the faculties of Engineering, Science, Agriculture or Pharmacy from an Egyptian university, or to have obtained an equivalent certificate from another recognized scientific institute, according to the nature of the diploma to be enrolled in.
  2. To submit the approval of the entity in which he works for the registration.
  3. Obtaining the approval of the faculty administration.

For the student to enter the exam, his attendance rate must not be less than 75% in each course. The University Board, based on the proposal of the faculty Board, determines the dates of the examinations. If the student is absent or fails in one or two courses in either of the two semesters, the diploma exam in May, he may enter a second term exam in which he failed to be held in the month of September, and the Faculty Board may provide one exceptional opportunity for students who fail in the September round, the student is not allowed to register for the year The second for the diploma, only after his success in all the subjects of the first year. The Board may re-enroll students who have failed in more than two courses at once. If his absence or failure is repeated, his registration is canceled.

The passing grades in the courses and in the general grade are calculated by one of the following grades:

  1. Excellent: 90% or more of the total score.
  2. Very good: from 80% - <90% of the total score.
  3. Good: from 70% - <80% of the total score.
  4. Pass: from 60% - <70% of the total score.
  5. Failed: from 30% - <60% of the total score.

The general grade for the diploma should be a cumulatively estimated based on the total marks of the four semester courses.

 

 

Master Degree

Assiut University grants, upon the request of the faculty board, MSc degrees in the following specializations:

  1. Science and technology of sugar industry.
  2. Industrial biotechnology.
  3. Environmental sciences and pollution remediation.
  4. Science and technology of pulp, paper and board industry.

For a student to register for a MSc degree in one of the specializations mentioned above, the following is required:

  1. For students who have obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Sugar and Integrated Industries Technology, they are registered for a master’s degree directly, provided that the student passes a preliminary year in the required specialization with a grade of at least as a condition for registration for a master’s degree.
  2. For graduates of other corresponding institutions, they must have obtained one of the postgraduate diplomas from the faculty in the field of specialization or its equivalent from another recognized scientific institution, with a grade of at least good.
  3. The student submits an application for registration to the dean of the faculty, who refers it to the concerned department to choose the supervisory committee, which determines the field and title of the research. Then, after completing all the papers, the matter is presented to the Faculty Board.
  4. Supervising professors, assistant professors and teachers from among the faculty members in universities and various research centers who are specialized in the field of study. An industrialist with great experience in the field of specialization may participate in the supervision, by a decision of the Faculty Board. Supervision is strengthened by one of the professors or assistant professors in If the main supervisor is absent for a period of more than a year abroad for any reason, the number of supervisors must not be more than three and not less than two. Supervision can be strengthened with a fourth in case of need for his specialization, and a fifth in the case of joint supervision with a foreign supervisor, after the approval of the University Board.
  5. To submit the approval of the employer for registration and full-time employment for at least two days a week.
  6. The student submits his complete and completed papers at the beginning of September of each year, and registration takes place at the beginning of October.
  7. That the student conducts a research on the subject whose field was previously determined upon enrollment, determines the title of the research, fills out the registration form, and approves it from the department, faculty and university, and submits the research results by letter. The degree is not awarded before two years have passed since enrollment.
  8. After completing the preparation of the thesis, the student presents a public discussion on its subject, to which the specialized industrialists are invited, and then the supervisor submits a report on whether the thesis is valid for presentation to the judging committee. If it decides Its validity, the Faculty Board, based on a proposal from the relevant Department Board, forms a tripartite committee to judge the thesis from the supervisors and two members of professors or specialized industrialists, provided that at least one of them is from outside the university, the discussion must be public and take place at the faculty headquarters.
  9. The judging committee may return the letter to its presenter to complete what it deems to be a deficiency and give him an opportunity to do so, provided that it does not exceed six months from the date of the discussion.
  10. The Department Board, and the approval of the Faculty Board and the University Board, may offer a number of courses that serve the field of specialization.

The student’s registration for a MSc degree is canceled in the following cases:

  1. If he did not obtain a master’s degree within five years from the date of his registration, unless the Faculty Board decided to keep the registration for another period determined by it based on the proposal of the supervisor and the relevant Department Board.
  2. If he exhausts the failure times in the exams prescribed in accordance with the provisions of Article (10), in the event that the student is given courses to study.
  3. If the supervisors submit a request for a reasoned apology, it will be accepted by the Department Board and the Faculty Board.
  4. If the judging committee rejects the message outright.
  5. If the student submits a request to cancel his registration.
 

 

PhD Degree

Assiut University grants, upon the request of the Faculty Board, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the following specializations:

  1. Science and technology of sugar industry.
  2. Industrial biotechnology.
  3. Environmental sciences and pollution remediation.
  4. Science and technology of pulp, paper and board industry.

For a student to register for a PhD in the above-mentioned disciplines, the following is required:

  1. He must hold an MSc degree in the field of specialization from the faculty or one of the Egyptian universities, or an equivalent degree from a recognized scientific institute.
  2. Supervision of professors and assistant professors. It is permissible to participate in supervision by a specialized industrialist with great experience in the field of specialization, and teachers or other members of the teaching staff in universities or those of their level with experience in industries related to the subject of the thesis, by a decision of the Faculty Board. Supervision is reinforced by one of the professors or assistant professors in the event that the main supervisor is absent for a period of more than one year abroad for any reason, provided that the number of supervisors is not more than three and not less than two. The supervision of the PhD research may be joint between the main supervisor at home and another supervisor from A foreign university or institute recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities, through scientific channels between the foreign university or institutes.
  3. He must submit the approval of the employer for registration and full-time employment for at least two days a week.

For a student to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy degree in the disciplines listed above, the following is required:

  1. The student submits an application for enrollment to the dean of the faculty, who refers it to the competent department to choose the supervisory committee, which determines the field and title of the research, and then submits the matter after completing all the papers to the Faculty Board.
  2. To carry out innovative research that represents a new addition in the specified specialization. After completing the preparation of the thesis, the student presents a public discussion on its subject, to which the specialized industrialists are invited, and then the supervisor submits a report on whether the thesis is valid for presentation to the judging committee. The letter is from the supervisor and two members of the professors or specialized industrialists, provided that they are from outside the university. The discussion must be public. The committee may ask the applicant to complete some points and it may specify a time period for this that does not exceed six months from the date of the discussion.
  3. The student must successfully attend English language courses at the university determined by the faculty board, or obtain a certificate of passing a language test such as the TOEFL test or its equivalent with grades determined by the Faculty Board or as determined by the university Board in the requirements for obtaining a doctorate degree at the university level.
  4. The Department Board, and the approval of the Faculty Board and the University Board, may offer a number of courses that serve the field of specialization.

The registration of a PhD student is canceled in the following cases:

  1. If he did not obtain the degree within five years from the date of his enrollment, unless the Faculty Board decided to keep the registration for another period determined by it based on the proposal of the supervisor and the relevant Department Board.
  2. If he has exhausted the failure times in the exams prescribed in accordance with the provisions of Article (10), in the event that the student is given a course to study them.
  3. If the supervisors submit a request for a reasoned apology, it will be accepted by the Department Board and the Faculty Board.
  4. If the judging committee rejects the message outright.
