Dr. El-Minshawy discusses aspects of joint cooperation with the Kuwaiti Office for Charitable Projects in Cairo and the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charitable Society to develop medical services at Assiut University Hospitals

On Tuesday, July 8,. Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, received a high-level Kuwaiti delegation comprising Mr. Adnan Jumaa Subti, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Office for Charitable Projects in Cairo, and Dr. Omar Farghaly, Director of Projects at Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society. The visit aimed to follow up on the performance of a newly introduced mobile radiology unit, donated by the Kuwaiti Zakat Office to the University’s Trauma and Emergency Hospital, at a value of EGP 1.5 million.

During the meeting, discussions were held on possible avenues for cooperation between Assiut University and the Kuwaiti institutions in the medical sector. The delegation also reviewed the latest services and capabilities of the university hospitals, which continue to undergo substantial development aimed at elevating the standard of healthcare for millions of patients across various specialties.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development;
 Dr. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board; Mr. Shawkat Saber, Secretary-General of the University; and Dr. Mohamed Salah El-Din, Executive Director of DragLab Company and coordinator of the visit.

At the beginning of the meeting, 
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy welcomed the guests, praising their keenness to strengthen cooperation relations with Assiut University and their efforts to support health care services at the University Trauma Hospital, which contributes to enhancing the hospital's ability to provide the best treatment services to patients.

Dr. El-Minshawy stressed that Assiut University has an integrated medical city that is the largest of its kind in Upper Egypt, and includes a distinguished group of medical cadres with experience and efficiency in performing the most accurate surgeries and advanced medical interventions, pointing out that university hospitals provide unique medical services to patients in Upper Egypt, especially in specialized and complex specialties.

He also pointed out that Assiut University is keen to join efforts and cooperation with various institutions and authorities concerned with the development of medical services, locally and regionally, with the aim of exchanging experiences and transferring advanced technologies, in order to reach the highest levels of excellence in health care in accordance with international standards.

At the end of the meeting , Dr. El-Minshawy presented the Shield of Assiut University to both Mr. Adnan Jumaa Subti and Dr. Omar Farghaly in recognition of their fruitful humanitarian and medical cooperation. The gesture reaffirmed the university’s dedication to deepening joint collaboration and sustaining future partnerships.

Following the meeting, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem led the Kuwaiti delegation on a field tour of the Trauma and Emergency Hospital, which included an inspection of the intensive care unit and the mobile radiology unit. They were joined by Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Hamid, Director of the Hospital; and Dr. Mohamed Farouk and Dr. Ahmed Ikram, Deputy Directors.

During the tour, Dr. Abdel-Aleem emphasized that the medical sector represents one of the core pillars of Assiut University, offering comprehensive, high-quality healthcare to patients across Upper Egypt, while also functioning as a center for medical education and research. He reviewed the capabilities of the medical city, which includes 11 specialized hospitals equipped with the latest medical technologies.

Dr. Alaa Attia explained that the University Trauma and Emergency Hospital is the largest of its kind nationwide, serving trauma and emergency cases from Assiut and neighboring governorates, noting that the hospital is built on an area of 6,500 square meters, has 600 beds, and is equipped with the latest medical equipment.

During the tour, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid, director of the Trauma and Emergency Hospital, reviewed the work system inside the hospital, explaining that it consists of a basement, ground floor and 8 floors, and receives more than 46,000 injured patients annually, in addition to performing about 13,000 major surgical interventions that require high skill.

The hospital director also presented the details of the Trauma Building B project, which consists of a basement, ground floor and 6 floors, and includes units for receiving and treating hand injuries and microsurgery, in addition to 6 outpatient clinics, 8 operating rooms, a 20-bed critical care unit, 82-bed boarding rooms, an advanced surgical skills training center, a physical therapy and rehabilitation center, and residential accommodations for resident and visiting doctors.
