Dr. El-Minshawy Inaugurates Major Development Projects at the South Egypt Oncology Institute, Assiut University, at a Cost Exceeding EGP 28 Million

On the morning of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated a number of comprehensive development and modernization projects at the South Egypt Oncology Institute, with a total cost exceeding EGP 28 million. The projects included the opening of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Interventional Radiology Units in the Diagnostic Radiology Department, in addition to the replacement and renovation for the institute’s Private Treatment Department.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Mohamed Abuelmaged, Dean of the South Egypt Oncology Institute; Dr. Amr Farouk Murad, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Hosny Badrawy, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Haitham Sami Atta, Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Department; Dr. Alaa Al-Zohary, Deputy Director of the Oncology Hospital for Private Medical Services; Dr. Ali Mahran, Member of the Health and Population Committee at the Senate; and Mr. Shawkat Saber, Secretary General of the University,in addition to a group of department heads and faculty members at the institute.

Dr. El-Minshawy emphasized that these inaugurations represent a pivotal step toward enhancing the efficiency of the university’s healthcare system and improving the quality of medical services provided to cancer patients. He added that the MRI unit, which cost EGP 20 million, marks a qualitative leap in diagnostic capabilities , as it contains a modern device that allows accurate and high-quality imaging of various organs of the body, which contributes to the early and accurate detection of tumors.

The university president also pointed out that the Interventional Radiology Unit, established at a cost of EGP 2 million, enhances the institute’s ability in providing non-surgical treatment techniques for cases of liver and pancreatic tumors, through modern technologies such as nanotechnology, microwave and thermal frequency, which is in line with the latest international standards in this specialty.

Regarding the renovation of the Private Treatment Department, Dr. El-Minshawy explained that the project cost exceeded EGP 6 million and involved a comprehensive development of the infrastructure—including electrical systems, sanitation, and air conditioning, along with the modernization of patient rooms and installation of new medical beds and equipment, all in accordance with quality and patient comfort standards.

Dr. Mohamed Abuelmaged, dean of the institute, added that the opening of these units represents a strategic shift in the history of the institute and enhances its role as a leading specialized medical institution in Upper Egypt. He added that the special treatment department, which included the development work, includes three main floors, namely the fourth, fifth and sixth floors, where the fourth and fifth floors each contain 18 rooms with 36 beds per floor, while the sixth floor includes 12 rooms with 24 beds.

The Dean expressed deep appreciation for the university’s unwavering support and the visionary leadership of Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawy, who is committed to advancing the healthcare sector and elevating the standard of treatment services. He pointed out that these achievements reflect the university’s dedication to serving the community and providing an advanced therapeutic and academic environment worthy of its leading position.
