Assiut University holds a dialogue session on: "improving water management and achieving water security" in cooperation with the European Union 

 
Prof.El-Minshawy; the session aimed at encouraging students and researchers to reach innovative applied solutions to the challenges facing water as a sustainable resource

During the session, Mr. Nicholas zaimis confirms the support of young people's ideas and vision in the conservation and good management of Water Resources

Assiut University, under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of the University, hold a dialogue session on water, in cooperation with the European Union, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, vice-president of the University for education and Student Affairs, and the European Union delegation to Egypt, which included Mr. Nicholas zaimis, head of the Commerce, Science and entrepreneurship sector, Dr. Ayman Ayad, director of the water and utilities sector, Dr. Maha Khalil, deputy director of the Egypt Center for entrepreneurship and innovation, and professor Shahira Amin, consultant on the water project.

Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed the close and continuous relations between Egypt and the European Union, pointing out the aspects of cooperation between the two sides at the political, economic and strategic levels, as well as the existing cooperation in many programs and projects that are consistent with the priorities of Egypt's comprehensive sustainable development strategy.

The president of Assiut University explained that the dialogue session reflects the joint efforts between the University and the European Union to address the challenges related to the water file, pointing out that the session aimed to raise awareness of mechanisms to improve water management, correct environmental practices to preserve water resources and achieve water security, and encourage students and researchers to reach innovative applied solutions to the challenges facing water as a sustainable resource.

The beginning of the dialogue session, prof. Ahmed welcomed the delegation of the European Union, appreciating the tireless efforts of the European Union in conserving water resources as a main pillar of life, stressing the support and encouragement of the university administration for all measures that would conserve water and achieve water development, calling on the attendees to benefit from the dialogue session, hoping that the session will achieve its purpose and objectives in deepening awareness of the importance of conserving water resources and protecting them from pollution and waste.

During the session, Mr. Nicholas zaimis stressed the need to raise awareness among university students of the seriousness of the water issue, pointing to the EU's great interest in teaching young people how to manage water resources, invest them, and link academic study and theoretical knowledge of water issues with practical application, through the creation of innovative solutions that address water challenges, stressing in this regard that the European Union supports the ideas of young people, their solutions, and their vision in the conservation of Water Resources, and good management.

Dr. Ayman Ayad gave an introduction about the dialogue sessions, explaining that they were launched through the "Reform Support and strategic reorientation of the Water Development Partners Group" project, funded by the European Union, as part of the Europe group for integrated water and food security initiative in Egypt, implemented by the Federation of Egyptian-European business associations (CEEBA), which supported many entrepreneurs, guided them, and provided technical and financial support to help them develop their businesses and sustain them.

Dr. Maha Khalil reviewed the objectives of the "Egypt Center for entrepreneurship and innovation", which was established last year; to support the culture of entrepreneurship among young people, which has become a necessity for all countries seeking to achieve sustainable development, explaining the services provided by the center, in helping to enhance the entrepreneurship environment in Egypt, through; converting many youth ideas into innovative and purposeful projects, serving the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt's vision 2030.

Professor shehira Amin moderated the dialogue session, explaining that the session included a discussion of a number of projects in the agriculture sector, and water; for entrepreneurs, students and graduates of Assiut University, including: Smart vision project, for smart agricultural systems, such as fully controlled agricultural rooms, in which irrigation water is recycled, the (water from the air) project, which provides a system for extracting water from atmospheric moisture with nanotechnologies and artificial intelligence, and the (safe environment) project from Fast octopus, for recycling waste, as the Tanis project presented Tanis, an environmental edutainment platform whose goal is to modify children's behavior and guide them to preserve the environment in a fun way.

The session discussed some issues related to water resources, including; addressing the challenge of water scarcity, through appropriate water recycling, in addition to reviewing the complementarities between (water, food, energy), mechanisms for conserving water and reducing waste, through sustainable agriculture, and highlighting the problem of water pollution.

The activities of the dialogue session were attended by a number of members and ambassadors of the European Union in Egypt in the field of water, a selection of faculty members, their assistants, students from Assiut University, a number of media professionals, and entrepreneurs in Assiut Governorate.
