Prof. El-Minshawy praises the capabilities and performance of the Microsurgery Unit and its acceptance of difficult cases
A medical team, at the hand surgery and microscopic surgery unit, at Assiut University Hospitals, succeeded in performing precise, complex microscopic surgery to connect the right and left hands of a one-year-old young man who suffered a complete amputation, and the arms were reconnected, including arteries, tendons, and veins, while maintaining his mobility, under the supervision of Dr. Alaa Attiyah, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and chairman of the board of University Hospitals, and Dr. Amr al-Sayed, head of the hand surgery and microscopic surgery unit.
Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, praised the capabilities and performance of the Microsurgery Unit and its acceptance of difficult cases, and also praised the medical team for its success in performing the surgical operation and reconnecting the arms after a complete amputation while maintaining the motor ability،
He thanked the medical team for its success in conducting this delicate and urgent operation for the patient, praising the excellence of the medical staff at Assiut University Hospitals, and their vital role in providing medical service at a high level of professionalism and skill and using the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods and techniques to provide the best possible health care.
The trauma and accident reception unit, at the main university hospital, had taken the young man with a complete amputation of the right and left hands, who was immediately transferred to the hand surgery and microscopic surgery unit; to perform a complex, emergency microscopic surgery, which took more than 5 hours, during which the medical team was able to successfully reconnect the arms, and the patient recovered.
Prof. El-Minshawy stressed: that the microscopic surgery unit is the first of its kind in the Middle East, and one of the largest specialized centers in the world, which annually receives medical teams from various nationalities of Arab and European countries; to train in this type of micro and complex surgeries, the unit also grants a professional diploma specialized in the field of hand surgery, nerve plexus surgery, and complementary microscopic surgery; approved by the Supreme Council of Egyptian universities.
It is worth mentioning that the medical staff who succeeded in performing the surgical operation with excellence and medical efficiency included a team of Surgeons, namely: Dr. Amr al-Sayed, head of the hand and microscopic surgery unit, Dr. Mohammed Hamed, assistant lecturer at the microscopic surgery unit, Dr. Baha Al-Hanini, along with Dr. Amr Abul Naga, Dr. Tamer Shoaib trainees with a professional diploma of microscopic surgery, and Dr. Ahmed that, assistant lecturer at the Department of Cosmetology.
The anesthesia team, headed by Dr. Said Metoli, Dr. Justina Tharwat, Dr. Andrew Ezzat, Assistant lecturer of anesthesia, and Dr. Hossam Aweys, a resident doctor, came in cooperation with the trauma reception doctors, the distinguished nursing team under the supervision of Ms. Rasha Mohammed, the team of Deputies, and Resident Doctors.
