Prof. El-Minshawy praises the medical team at Assiut University Hospitals for successfully performing a delicate surgery for a young man suffering from an eyeball explosion while maintaining visual integrity 

 

Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, praised the success achieved by the Department of Ophthalmology and surgery, at the main University Hospital of Assiut University, in performing a precision surgery on a young man from Luxor governorate, aged 35 year, suffering from an explosion in the eyeball, as a result of his injury during work, and flying parts of a metal object, and the medical team was able to perform the surgery successfully, while maintaining the young patient's ability to see.

  This medical success represents a new addition that reflects the excellence of medical cadres in performing precision and extremely dangerous surgical operations, under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, and under the supervision of: Dr. Alaa Attiyah, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, chairman of the board of University Hospitals, Dr. Khalid Abdul Aziz, director of the University Hospital, and Dr. Tarek Ahmed Ali, head of the Department of Ophthalmology.

 The president of Assiut University thanked the medical team, explaining that this success is a new addition to the record of successes of the famous Assiut University Hospitals, and the excellence of its medical cadres, and reflected Assiut University's commitment to continuous support to the medical sector, based on its vital role in providing medical services at a high level of professionalism and skill, and the excellence of medical cadres of doctors and nurses in using the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods and techniques, which are working at full readiness to serve thousands of patients in various governorates of Upper Egypt.

 The Department of Ophthalmology and surgery, at Assiut University Hospital, received a young man from the Esna Center in Luxor governorate, who suffered an eyeball explosion, a sclera wound, and injured white water, as a result of his injury during work and flying parts of a metal object; to settle inside the eye, causing vitreous hemorrhage, intraocular infections, and suspected retinal detachment.

The medical team performed an urgent and careful intervention by repairing a wound in the sclera of the eye, removing cataracts, ultrasound, implanting a soft lens, the vitreous body was removed, and the hard metal body was extracted from the inside of the eye, while maintaining the young patient's ability to see.

The medical team consisted of Dr. Wael Suleiman, professor of Ophthalmology and the head of the medical team, Dr. Omar Abdel Karim, Assistant Teacher of Ophthalmology and Dr. Amr Mohamed Sayed, a teaching assistant at the department, and the anesthesia team consisted of Dr. Jehan Ahmed, professor of anesthesia, Dr. Yasmin Masri, Assistant Teacher of anesthesia, and Dr. Islam Abu al-Yasser, a resident doctor at the department, in addition to the nursing staff, technicians, and staff.
