Dr. El-Minshawy signs three cooperation protocols with the Egyptian Space Agency to support scientific research and Space Applications

- President of Assiut University: the protocols aim to strengthen research cooperation and develop students ' abilities in the fields of space and technology

Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, signed this Wednesday morning, April 9, 2025, three protocols of cooperation with the Egyptian Space Agency, and the protocols were signed by the agency Dr. Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, at the agency's headquarters in Cairo.

These protocols come within the framework of Assiut University's keenness to support scientific research in the fields of space science and technology, employ remote sensing applications in the service of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as building the capacities of students and researchers, and qualifying young cadres in specific disciplines, reflecting the University's commitment to its leading role in promoting scientific research and localizing advanced technology.

The protocol was signed in the presence of Dr. Dwaib Hussein Saber, dean of the Faculty of law and legal adviser to the president of the University, Dr. Khaled Salah said, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ahmed Saad, dean of the Egyptian – German Technological College, Dr. Mohamed Adawi, director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the University and vice dean of the Faculty of Commerce, and Mr. Ibrahim Abdel Tawab, director general of the rector's office in Cairo.

  Dr. El-Minshawy explained that the protocols aim to support scientific research and education in the fields of space science and technology, in addition to employing remote sensing applications in the service of the Sustainable Development Goals. It also aims to build the capabilities of students and researchers in the exact disciplines.

Dr. El-Minshawy pointed out that the cooperation items include advanced areas such as building human capacities, implementing joint research projects, exchanging experiences and information, and participating in scientific seminars and conferences. The protocols also provide excellent training and qualification opportunities for students and researchers from both parties, which opens up new horizons for the next generation of specialists in the fields of space and technology.

  In his speech, during the signing ceremony, Dr. El-Minshawy thanked the Egyptian Space Agency for its keenness to cooperate with national universities, pointing out that this partnership comes to enhance the role of Assiut University and its affiliated universities in supporting scientific research and localizing advanced technology in Egypt.

He stressed that Assiut University, as the first regional university established in Upper Egypt in 1957, continues to play its leading role in supporting higher education through 19 colleges and 3 specialized institutes, pointing out that the university is constantly developing its academic programs in line with global scientific and technological changes.

For his side, Prof. Dr. Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, stressed the importance of signing these protocols, which reflect the agency's orientation towards expanding cooperation with Egyptian universities in support of the state's aspirations in the fields of scientific research and innovation.

In a presentation, Dr. Sidqi reviewed the advanced technical capabilities of the agency, including the satellite assembly and testing center (AITC), a satellite reception and control station, as well as the qualified human capabilities of experts and engineers.

He also highlighted the pivotal role of the Egyptian Space Academy in preparing cadres and providing advanced training programs that keep pace with global developments and strengthen Egypt's position regionally in this vital sector.

  At the end of the signing ceremony, commemorative shields were exchanged between the two sides, in a gesture expressing the depth of institutional relations and the common desire to continue cooperation and integration of scientific and educational efforts to support the national development process and achieve scientific leadership for Egypt.
