Assiut University students participate in a campaign to clean the Nile River in Bosra village
Assiut University students participated in an extensive campaign to clean the Nile River from plastic and solid waste in Bosra village of the Al-Fath Center in Assiut Governorate, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, and under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim, vice president of the University for community service and environmental development, and in cooperation with the company "Cemex" and the "ferry Nile"initiative.
About 40 students from various faculties of the University participated in the campaign, as part of the efforts of the community service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector to spread environmental awareness and encourage student participation in Targeted Community Initiatives.
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the participation of students in this campaign embodies the University's firm commitment to environmental issues, and its constant quest to promote environmental awareness among its students and the local community, based on its enlightenment and awareness role to build a conscious generation capable of facing the challenges of sustainability and preserving natural resources, especially the waters of the Nile River.
The president of the University explained that the campaign comes in support of the Egyptian state's directions aimed at preserving water resources and raising awareness of the procedures to be followed to protect the Nile River from pollution, stressing the importance of cooperation with civil society institutions, national companies and youth initiatives to achieve sustainable development.
For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Abdel Alim pointed out that the campaign also included an expanded awareness session, within the activities of an environmental seminar organized by the university under the title: "a step towards protecting the waters of the Nile River and supporting the local community in order to promote sustainability," and included many activities to raise environmental awareness among participants.
The campaign witnessed the presence of a number of officials at the university, including: Dr. Essam Fadl Abu Zeid, undersecretary of the College of Science for community service and Environmental Development, Dr. Nahed Shawkat Abu Al-Majd, undersecretary of the College of Nursing for community service and Environmental Development, Dr. Heba Makhlouf, undersecretary of the College of medicine for community service and environmental development, and Dr. Aya Mustafa, member of the environment committee at the College of nursing،
Mr. Mohamed Farag, director of the Misr El Kheir Foundation in Assiut and a member of the Assiut University Council for community service and Environmental Development Affairs.
Mr. Ibrahim Saad, director of public relations and community impact at Assiut cement company "Cemex", Mr. Hani Fawzi, director of the project to improve the conditions of fishermen and managing director of the "ferry Nile" initiative, Ms. Hana Tohami, director of partnerships and awareness of the "ferry Nile" initiative, and Ms. Iman Anwar, Director of the "ferry Nile" branch in Assiut governorate, also participated in the campaign.
Mr. Ibrahim Saad stressed that Cemex always seeks to enhance its role in serving the local community by supporting environmental initiatives, contributing to reducing waste and achieving carbon neutrality, in addition to its commitment to spreading environmental awareness, especially among youth and students.
For his part, Mr. Hani Fawzi explained that the "ferry Nile" initiative focuses on developing innovative and environmentally friendly solutions to clean the Nile River, in addition to its awareness-raising efforts in the community, pointing out that the initiative blends the environmental and social impact to ensure the sustainability of the river's resources.
The campaign was met with a wide interaction from the participating university students, who expressed their pride in contributing to the efforts of protecting the Nile River, and their keenness to continue volunteering in this vital field that affects their present and the future of future generations.
