Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, Acting President of Assiut University, stressed the university’s keenness to provide all means available of support to the various medical institutions that aim to serve the community and reduce the burdens on its members by providing the best medical services in a voluntary and free manner, such as the Operation Smile Association-Egypt, which provides the highest medical services to treat patients with facial of congenital malformations for free, as the university administration seeks to overcome all obstacles in front of the institution, cultivate the values of community contribution, activate the role of the youth, achieve the goals of sustainable development and make optimal use of all human and material resources for this goal.
This came in response to Dr. Maha Ghanem, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, opening a sports marathon at the university to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Operation Smile Association-Egypt and in conjunction with the start of the new academic year, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed El-Shazly, Executive Director of the Foundation and with the participation of a large number of university students and a number of children.
Dr. Maha Ghanem stated that the aim of the marathon is to welcome new students from all the university’s faculties, as well as to highlight the pioneering role of the university and the institution in treating cases of congenital malformations (cleft lip and cleft palate), and to define the role of student volunteers and how to volunteer in the institution, as the course of the marathon included passing most faculties on campus.
