   Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, participated in a workshop to discuss the mechanisms of applying the preparatory year, organized by the Supreme Council of universities, in the presence of the minister of higher education and scientific research, Dr. Ayman Ashour, the presidents of public, private universities, the trustees of councils and several ministry leaders.

  In a statement issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ayman Ashour pointed out that the foundation year system is available in many universities at the international level, explaining that the foundation year adds to the student skills and competencies that prepare him for university study, and reduce the knowledge gap between the outputs of general education and what the student is expected to perform at the undergraduate level to improve the University's outputs of qualified cadres for the labor market.

Dr. Ayman Ashour stressed that the foundation year aims to increase the chances of success in university studies, enhance language skills, develop personal skills, build self-confidence, and quickly adapt to university life.

The minister added that the foundation year will contribute to improve the quality of education by raising the level of curricula by international standards, and qualifying students before they enroll in the university, by providing them with various skills, experiences, and merits, stressing the importance of enhancing education using technological means to facilitate learning and make it more attractive to students.

Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, explained that the preparatory year system achieves many goals, including providing new opportunities for students, allowing them to enroll in appropriate specialties after qualification, and reducing the alienation of students by providing an academic alternative that enables them to bridge the knowledge gap locally instead of looking for study opportunities abroad.

The secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities added that the foundation year supports international students, provides them with the opportunity to acquire more study skills, develop their skills, gives them a vital opportunity to improve their communication skills, improve their grades, and support academic decision-making by providing an introductory path that helps students ensure that they have chosen the appropriate academic specialization for them.

The secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities also presented a comparison between the different systems for applying the foundation year at the regional and international levels; to achieve the maximum possible benefit from these systems.

Dr. Mostafa Refaat presented a proposal on the admission requirements for the foundation year, the duration of the study, the scientific content and educational tracks of various higher education sectors, and assessment and examination systems.

Dr. Adel Abdul Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesman of the ministry, stated that the heads of public, private, and private universities submitted many ideas and proposals on the mechanisms of applying the foundation year System, the study system, curricula, assessment and examination systems, and the electronic system for submitting students.
