Research Abstract
Pyridone and Thiopyridone derivatives (1) and (2) were considered as versatile intermediates to produce some interesting tricyclic compounds. They were converted to O- and S-alkylated pyridines (3) and (4) which undergo cycloaddition reaction to give the furo and thienopyridines. The thiopyridone derivative (2) react with bromodiethylmalonate to give S-diethoxycarbonyl-methane derivative 7 which are converted to S-pyrazolo compounds by reaction with hydrazine and phenylhydrazine
