About Department

Civil engineering is the profession of designing and executing structural works that serve the general public; the department deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally-built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings.

An Engineering student must first pass the preparatory year, Then enroll in the Civil Engineering Department. The required period of study in the department is four years in order to obtain a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering .This department includes:
Civil Engineering Program
Structural Engineering Program
The student will need to take the approval after finishing the preparatory year from the faculty coordination office in order to study civil engineering.

Civil Engineering Department at Assiut University was established in 1957, as the first academic institution in this specialization in Upper Egypt and the fourth all over Egypt. The department has 80 faculty members, and 36 teaching assistants. The department offers 3 undergraduate programs; Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Construction Engineering and Project Management Program (Credit-Hour Program) In addition to the undergraduate programs, the department offers 13 post-graduate programs in four disciplines (Structural engineering, Irrigation and hydraulic engineering, Public works engineering and Sanitary and environmental engineering). Civil Engineering Department as well as other departments in Faculty of Engineering at Assiut University was the first all over Egypt to be accredited from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education in 2011. The department has nine main laboratories that are supporting the educational process and scientific research, as well as providing technical consultations to the public community.
