The Assiut University Council held its regular meeting on Sunday evening, July 27, 2025, chaired by Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of the University, and in the presence of Vice-rectors, deans of faculties, assistant secretary general of the University, and advisers to the president of the university, to discuss several important topics related to the Educational, Research, Service, and development process within the University.
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of the University, initiated the meeting with sincere thanks and appreciation to all elements of the academic and administrative structure of Assiut University for their sincere efforts in supporting the University's March and upgrading its educational, research, and service system. He was also keen to congratulate the scientists of Assiut University who won the state awards for 2024, issued by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, stressing that these awards represent a source of pride and pride for the academic community, and reflect the University's excellence and research leadership.
The university council appreciated the distinguished participation of Assiut University students in the presidential initiatives, especially the "Be Ready" initiative, which was launched by the Ministry of higher education and scientific research to qualify one million students and graduates for the labor market through the development of digital skills and entrepreneurship, where the council praised the positive interaction of university students, stressing the importance of continuing this trend that enhances their readiness for the local and international labor market.
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy reviewed the most important decisions of the Supreme Council of universities meeting, which was held at Kafr el-Sheikh University under the chairmanship of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of higher education and scientific research, where the meeting touched on several important axes, including the readiness of universities to welcome the new academic year, the completion of maintenance work, and the application of occupational safety requirements, to ensure a safe and orderly educational environment.
The Assiut University Council also appreciated the active participation of Assiut state and private universities in signing cooperation agreements with the American University of Louisville, along with 10 other Egyptian universities, to establish educational pathways that grant Master of engineering sciences degrees in multiple disciplines, which is a qualitative step that enhances the prospects of international cooperation and opens promising opportunities for graduate students within academic programs of a global nature and international quality.
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy reviewed the University's expansion vision in the new city of Assiut, which includes several Service and residential projects, including the establishment of a Sports Social Club, an integrated residential town for students, residential buildings for faculty and staff, in addition to completing infrastructure works in the area, as part of the University's plan to provide an integrated and sustainable educational and service environment.
The University Council approved the allocation of an area of unused land behind the new University oncology hospital, to be a supportive extension for future expansions of the oncology hospital and trauma complex, in order to improve the quality of health care, develop the medical sector at the University, and raise the efficiency of services provided to patients.
The University Council approved the adoption of the final regulations for the Bachelor's degree in the system of credit hours at the Faculty of Arts, after reviewing the amendments received from the Arts Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of universities. The council also approved the final regulations for the Bachelor's degree in the system of credit hours at the Faculty of Dentistry, after reviewing the amendments from the dental sector committee, in the framework of seeking to modernize academic programs and achieve quality standards and accreditation.
The council approved the need to activate the technical committee specialized in confronting stray animals inside the university campus, in implementation of Article (11) of the executive regulations of the law regulating the possession of dangerous animals and dogs, issued by the prime minister's Decision No. 1731 of 2025. The council called for the involvement of civil society organizations and animal rights associations in submitting viable proposals in coordination with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, provided that the university provides full technical support to study the current situation and propose effective mechanisms for implementation.
On behalf of the University Council, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Deans whose term of office ends by the end of July, appreciating their efforts in developing the academic and administrative performance of their faculties, namely: Dr. Abdul Hamid Abu Sahli, dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Samah Abdullah, dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Adel Abdo, dean of the Faculty of sugar industry technology, Dr. Sayed Ibrahim, supervisor of the Research Institute for drug development and innovation
The council praised the activities and events organized during July, which included: the University's celebration of the twelfth anniversary of the June 30 Revolution, the opening of the luxury housing building (3) for students after its comprehensive development, the opening of two technical exhibitions for students of the Faculty of specific education, the launch of the sixth and eighth stages of the "University of the child", the opening of the open Botanical Garden at the Faculty of Science, the opening of a center for food health and safety, the opening of a postgraduate Laboratory at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, cooperation with charitable institutions and honoring people of determination, and the council discussed aspects of cooperation with the Kuwait for charitable projects in Cairo, and Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri charitable association, to support and develop medical services at University Hospitals.
The council also congratulated the students of determination who won the Golden Talent competitions, the University Olympiads, and the martyr Rifai championships (51, 52).
The council approved the final account of Assiut University (Department of Education-University Hospitals) for the fiscal year 2024/2025, which was done in accordance with the automated GFMIS system.
The council approved the opening of diplomas in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering in the following specialties: Structural Engineering, Irrigation, Hydraulics and Water Resources, Public Works engineering, starting from the first semester of the academic year 2025/2026.
The council also approved the appointment of several professors, assistant professors, and teachers at various faculties of the University, and the adoption of regulations governing the educational process after reviewing them.
