- President of Assiut University: renovation and development works at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine strengthen the infrastructure and support education and scientific research
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, inaugurated on Sunday morning, July 20, a number of development projects at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at a total cost of about 10 million pounds, within the framework of the University's plan to strengthen infrastructure and develop the educational and research process.
The openings included: the specialized center of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy for food health and safety after its development, and upgrading the efficiency of the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan Sayed for graduate studies and research at the Department of cell and tissue, under the supervision of Dr. Madiha Darwish, dean of the college.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Jamal Badr, vice president of the University for graduate studies and research, Dr. Inas Ahmed Abdul Hafez, vice dean of the college for graduate studies and research, Dr. Mo'men Abdul Azim, vice dean of the college for education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Abdul Malik, head of the Department of food health, safety and technology and director of the center of Prof. Dr. Ahmed and supervisors of the engineering construction department at the university.
The rector of the University, Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawy, opened the specialized center for food health and safety after its comprehensive development, at a total cost of 2 million pounds, in order to raise the efficiency of its infrastructure in accordance with international technical standards. The development work included the installation of granite floors for its durability and ease of cleaning, and wall cladding with stain-resistant laser-cut ceramics designed to facilitate sterilization, in accordance with the requirements of microbiological laboratories. The "Galaxy black" granite was also used for the work surfaces, besides the center was provided with sinks and mixers of Turkish certified stainless steel 304 material, to ensure the highest degrees of cleanliness and efficiency.
This development comes as part of the center's readiness to apply for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from the Egyptian General Authority for accreditation (EGAC), which is one of the basic conditions for the approval of food tests by the Food Safety Authority, ensuring the provision of accurate and accredited analysis services to determine the suitability of food for human consumption.
The president of the university also inaugurated the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan Sayed for postgraduate studies and research at the Department of cell and tissue, which underwent a comprehensive development and equipping with the latest scientific and technical devices at a cost of about 8 million pounds, to constitute a qualitative leap that supports researchers in completing their research within an integrated research environment.
The new equipment included providing the laboratory with an integrated imaging unit equipped with morphometric analysis programs, a high-efficiency imaging microscope, a Microtome for slicing slides, a tratome device at a cost of almost 3 million pounds, drying Ovens, and a hood for vapors, which contributes to enhancing the accuracy of tissue sample preparation and raising the efficiency of scientific research in the field of fine tissues, in accordance with international publishing standards.
Dr. Ahmed El-Minshawi stressed that the opening of the new projects at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine embodies Assiut University's commitment to supporting scientific faculties and upgrading the infrastructure of educational and research facilities, in order to provide an integrated academic environment that meets the needs of students and researchers. He explained that the University spares no effort in providing the necessary capabilities to develop the veterinary medical education system, in line with international standards and enhances the role of the College in providing effective community services, especially in the fields of Veterinary prevention and food safety, in order to contribute to promoting public health and achieving comprehensive development goals.
For her side, Dr. Madiha Darwish expressed her deep gratitude for the continuous support of the university administration, praising the development efforts that represent a qualitative leap in the infrastructure of the college, contribute to improving the quality of education and provide a modern research environment that enhances the capabilities of students and researchers, and enable the college to perform its mission in serving the community and the veterinary sector efficiently.
