Assiut University witnessed, today, Thursday 21 November; the launch of an awareness seminar entitled: "The Dangers of illegal immigration", within the framework of the Presidential Initiative "lifeboats", and the Presidential Initiative "A New Beginning; to Build a Human Being", under the supervision of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of the Republic, and with the support of 

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians abroad.

The seminar was opened by prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy, president of Assiut University, and Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasser, governor of Assiut, and lectured during it; Ambassador Nabil Habshi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, and ambassador Naila Gabr, chairman of the National Coordinating Committee to combat and prevent illegal immigration and human trafficking, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Abdul Mawla, vice president of the University for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Mohamed Adawi, advisor to the president of the University for alumni affairs, entrepreneurship and innovation, and a member of the economics and political science committee, at the council in addition to the executive and popular leaders, members of the University Council, deans, proxies, faculty members of the University's faculties, and a crowd of students.

The awareness seminar aims to reduce the phenomenon of illegal migration, raise awareness of its risks, and safe ways of migration, open a dialogue with students, and introduce them to positive alternatives such as training, job opportunities, and entrepreneurship, which contributes to supporting their skills, raising their abilities, and linking them to the labor market.

At the beginning of his speech, Prof. El-Minshawy expressed his deep appreciation and welcomed the distinguished guests of the University, participants in the activities of its awareness seminar on" the dangers of illegal immigration", which comes under the kind supervision of His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, migration and Egyptians abroad, and out of Assiut University's keenness to coordinate efforts to promote the rights of citizens and exercise its role in achieving community development.

Prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy stressed that the university administration is keen to make every effort to implement the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, president of the Republic, as a duty and a national commitment, through participation in presidential initiatives, which is a real reflection of the interest of the political leadership - based on a comprehensive national vision-to ensure a decent life for all citizens.

The president of Assiut University explained: that the University's participation in the implementation of the national initiative, "lifeboats" under the auspices of the president of the Republic, which was announced after the Youth Forum in December ; came out of belief in its importance, its role in raising awareness of the dangers of illegal immigration, the need to address it, and to implement the national strategic objectives in its various axes; to cut off any bids that affect the reputation and interest of the Egyptian citizen in the first place.

Prof. El-Minshawy added that in light of the importance attached by the political leadership to the issue of illegal immigration, Assiut University is keen to offer its young students and graduates alternatives to create decent job opportunities, activate vocational training during and after study, provide employment support programs, and encourage entrepreneurship. Assiut University is also keen to encourage young people to participate in public policy development on several priority issues in all fields and provide insights and ideas for young people to support decision-makers.

Prof. El-Minshawy said that regular and safe migration is of great importance to the Egyptian economy, as it contributes to absorbing a large part of the labor force in Egypt, and is also an important source of national income for Egypt through remittances of workers abroad, adding that despite the great importance of migration for Egypt, the phenomenon of illegal migration represents a great danger to the citizen and the state. 

At the end of his speech, the president of Assiut University praised the efforts exerted by the concerned Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its keenness to implement all the objectives of this file for the benefit of the citizens in the first place, hoping for more communication and cooperation together for the uplift of our beloved homeland.

During his speech, Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr pointed to the dangers of illegal immigration and its dire economic and social effects on the homeland, stressing the need to address them by spreading public awareness of its risks and highlighting the available alternatives, stressing that Assiut Governorate pays great attention to supporting young people, adopts their ambitions, encourages them to develop their ideas and turn them into small projects and start-up companies, contributing to the creation of new job opportunities and supports the local economy, in implementation of the mandates of the political leadership, pointing to the governorate's endeavours to strengthen frameworks of cooperation with many industrial institutions; to hold workshops and training courses for young people and girls; to train in handicraft professions and handicrafts; to be a source of income, contributing to improving the standard of living, and eliminating the ideas of illegal immigration; again inviting all young people who have ideas for emerging projects; to present them to the governorate; to support and upgrade them.

At the beginning of his speech, Ambassador Nabil Habshi expressed his great happiness to be in Assiut Governorate and its ancient university, pointing out that this visit is the first field visit after the joining of the ministries of Foreign Affairs and immigration, which came to spread awareness of the seriousness of the phenomenon of illegal immigration, and its tragic consequences for Egyptian families, reviewing the most important reasons on the minds of young people.

Ambassador Nabil Habshi reviewed some means to address illegal immigration, including: spreading awareness among young people, especially in centers and villages, about the adverse consequences of illegal immigration, pointing out that the fight against illegal immigration is the most important target of the Presidential Initiative "lifeboats", aimed at raising awareness and training the neediest groups; to identify the dangers of illegal immigration and its safe alternatives, according to a; to reduce this phenomenon.

At the end of his speech, Ambassador Nabil Habshi pointed out that the coming period is scheduled to witness the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Assiut Governorate, and its university on providing training, qualification, and youth employment opportunities to reduce illegal immigration.

During the seminar, Ambassador Naila Jabr pointed to ways to eliminate irregular migration of young people, including the need to achieve comprehensive development, as a cornerstone in addressing the phenomenon of illegal migration, supporting technical and technological schools, and expanding their establishment, due to their importance in graduating trained and qualified labor, supporting the labor market, keeping pace with scientific and technological progress in various fields, promoting women, empowering them socially, economically, and enhancing their guiding and persuasive role; towards their families; the dangers of illegal migration, and she pointed out that the population breakdown, neglect of family planning programs, and the spread of the phenomenon of dropping out of education are the main reasons for the social and financial decline of Egyptian families, and the first motive is to search for sources of illegal immigration.

Ambassador Naila Gabr stressed the continued efforts of the Egyptian state, led by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, to confront illegal immigration, explaining that Egypt was one of the first countries to criminalize this phenomenon by developing legal frameworks to combat it, to preserve the lives of young people, noting that these endeavors contributed to reducing the rates of irregular migration, and pushed young people to look for safe alternatives to improve the standard of living in their homeland.

Dr. Mohamed Adawi reviewed Assiut University's efforts to reduce the phenomenon of illegal migration by monitoring the developments of the labor market and its transformations ( locally, regionally, and globally), developing courses and methods of study in this framework, identifying graduates, following them, and identifying their needs ( database - tracking studies), encouraging entrepreneurship, supporting business incubators at the University, organizing many competitions to support ideas and creative projects, financing them, and supporting students ' participation in national, regional, and international competitions.

Dr. Mohamed Adawi pointed out that the seminar opened the door for discussion between the participants in the Proceedings of the seminar and the students on several points, including: the repercussions of illegal migration on the economic and social systems in Egypt, and how the European Union supports Egypt; to face the challenges of illegal migration through training, qualification, employment programs, and the most important ways to confront the state; the challenges of illegal migration, and the repercussions of climate phenomena on illegal migration.

At the end of the seminar, prof. Ahmed El-Minshawy presented the University shield to Ambassador Nabil Habshi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians abroad Affairs, and Ambassador Naila Gabr, chairman of the National Coordinating Committee to combat and prevent illegal immigration and human trafficking, in appreciation of their fruitful participation in the seminar's activities.
