A Republican Decision was made to Appoint Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy as the President of Assiut University until he Reaches the Legal Retirement Age.

His Excellency, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of the Republic, issued a decision to appoint Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy, a professor of cardiac and thoracic surgery (pediatric cardiac surgery) at the Faculty of Medicine, as the President of the University until he reaches the legal retirement age.
By virtue of this decision, Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy becomes the 16th president in the history of Assiut University, succeeding Dr. Tarek El-Gammal, the former president of the university, whose term as the president of the University ended in July of last year 2022 upon reaching the legal retirement age. Dr. Ahmed Al-Minshawy had previously served as the Vice President of Assiut University for Graduate Studies and Research since December 29, 2018, until December 29, 2022. During this period, he also served as the Acting President of the University from August 4, 2022, until the end of December of the same year.

Dr. Ahmed El-Manshaawy is considered one of the prominent medical professors in the field of heart surgery and one of the founders of the pediatric heart surgery specialty in Egypt. He began his professional career after graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at Assiut University in 1988 with a "very good with honors" grade. He then obtained a Master's degree in General Surgery with distinction in January 1993, followed by a Doctorate in Heart Surgery in June 1997. He progressed in the academic ranks at the Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, until he reached his current position as a professor of heart and chest surgery in February 2008. Since March 2009, Dr. Ahmed El-Manshaawy has been serving as the head of the Heart and Chest Surgery Unit. He also chaired the Department of Heart and Chest Surgery from October 2010 to November 2017 and served as the Deputy Director of the University Children's Hospital for the Surgery Departments. From March 2014 to 2017, he also served as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Heart Hospital, where he played a prominent role in its establishment and the follow-up of its preparation in an excellent manner, in accordance with the latest medical systems.

As for leadership positions, Dr. Ahmed El-Manshawy has held several important positions. From November 2017 to December 2018, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Assiut University Hospitals. In November 2020, he also supervised the Faculty of Fine Arts for two years.
The new President of Assiut University has also received numerous honors and awards, including the Ronald Edward Medal for Best Research in Pacemaker Heart Surgery in 2002 during the Annual International Conference of the Society of Heart and Chest Surgery in Britain and Ireland. He was also honored by the General Union of Physicians on Doctors' Day and received the Ideal Doctor title for the years 2020. In addition, he has conducted several scientific missions and visits to many countries, including a training mission at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom for two years and work as a consultant and head of the Pediatric Heart Surgery Unit at Al-Nour Specialized Hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia for three years.
He is also a member of several scientific committees related to the promotion of professors and assistant professors, and also the memberships of several international organizations specialized in the field of heart surgery and pediatric heart surgery.
