Research Abstract

In this paper, the poisoning effect of Zr, Cr and Ta, present in the Al melt, on the grain refining efficiency of the commercial Al-Ti and Al-Ti-B master alloys is reviewed. The poisoning mechanism is established and three different approaches are proposed to overcome the grain refinement poisoning problem in the Al alloys containing Zr.
