Within the framework of the university and college's ongoing support for academic excellence and community-oriented scientific research, and in the spirit of collaboration between the college's various scientific disciplines, fourth-year students in the Electrical Engineering Department – ​​Computer and Control Program – under the supervision of professors from the Electrical and Civil Engineering Departments, have achieved a distinguished scientific accomplishment by publishing a research paper derived from their graduation project studies in the journal "Sustainability." This international journal is ranked in the second quartile (Q2) of the Web of Science database and the first quartile (Q1) of the Scopus database. This achievement reflects the outstanding academic level of the college's students and their ability to compete in research at the international level.

Professor Khaled Salah, Dean of the Faculty, explained that this achievement represents a serious model of academic cooperation between the various scientific disciplines within the Faculty. Furthermore, it exemplifies applied scientific research that strives to provide engineering solutions to societal problems. This underscores the role of the University and the Faculty in preparing students and graduates capable of employing the latest artificial intelligence technologies to solve real-world problems and serve the community. This reflects the serious collaboration and integration between the education, scientific research, and community service sectors at the University. He expressed his appreciation for the significant support from the University administration, headed by Professor Ahmed El-Menshawy, President of the University, and including Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, which culminated in this honorable result for the Faculty and the University.

The Dean also extended his thanks and appreciation to the faculty members supervising the students from the Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering departments for their significant collaborative efforts. He also congratulated the students of the Electrical Engineering department on this outstanding scientific research achievement.

The research paper, titled "Adaptive Traffic Signal Control Using Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning: A Comparison of Control Strategies," explores the development of an intelligent adaptive traffic signal control system using artificial intelligence and multi-agent reinforcement learning (MAR) techniques. This system enables traffic signals to collaborate in real-time to make more efficient operational decisions, thereby reducing traffic delays, shortening queues, and improving traffic flow within urban networks.

Professor Mahmoud Awais explained that the study's significance lies in its reliance on a real-world case study in Assiut Governorate, specifically through the modeling and analysis of traffic flow at the 25th of January Bridge, a major traffic artery in the governorate. The results demonstrated the potential for employing artificial intelligence techniques to achieve tangible improvements in the performance of traffic intersections, positively impacting travel times, fuel consumption, and environmental emissions. Furthermore, the paper provides a scientific framework that can be utilized to support the state's efforts toward digital transformation and the implementation of smart city concepts and intelligent transportation systems, contributing to increased efficiency in the transportation system and an improved quality of life for citizens.
