The University of Assiut, under the guidance and patronage of Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawi, the university president, has witnessed an expansion in building international relations with major organizations and academic institutions throughout 2023. This includes signing numerous protocols, cooperation agreements, and memoranda of understanding in various fields to benefit from international cooperation opportunities, research funding opportunities, and to encourage exchange programs in different specialties. It also promotes joint research with researchers from various countries, in addition to enhancing and increasing the capabilities, experiences, and skills of students, preparing them for the job market and future careers, and helping them build a stronger foundation for their professional and educational growth.
Dr. Ahmed El-Menshawi indicated that Assiut University studied and signed nearly 33 joint cooperation protocols between Assiut University and various universities, both within Egypt and abroad, during the year 2023, which included several cooperation protocols with universities.

It also included: cooperation protocols between the university, major institutes, and international organizations; the Savita Institute of Medical Science and Technology, the Institute of Electronics Research, the Karlsruhe Institute in Germany, the Spanish Foundation for Strategic and International Studies (FESEI), the Gene Research Institute at the University of Lisbon in Portugal (IMM Joao Lobo Antunes), and the Tsukuba Japanese Space Science Center affiliated with the Japan Agency.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), in addition to the cooperation protocol between the "Faculty of Science at the university" and the "College of Agriculture and Biology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China," and another between the "Faculty of Medicine at the university" and the "H. Turner National Center for Medical Research in Orthopedics and Trauma," as well as the cooperation protocol between the "Faculty of Pharmacy at the university" and the "Faculty of Pharmacy - Badr University in Assiut," and also the cooperation protocol between the "Faculty of Education at the university" and the "University of Zurich in Switzerland for Teacher Education," and the protocol for the accession of "Assiut University" to the membership of the World Physical Education Alliance (WPEA) – East China Normal University in Shanghai.
Dr. Jamal Badr, Director of the Office of International Relations and Arab University Affairs, added that Assiut University witnessed in 2023 a significant and unprecedented amount of international cooperation with prestigious foreign and Arab higher education institutions as a means to enhance the quality of higher education and scientific research, and to spread knowledge across borders. This also strengthens communication between countries to serve various educational fields and benefit from foreign expertise in the areas of developing higher education and scientific research, which reflects in the improvement of student levels and the introduction of new scientific. Asyut University announced within one year nearly 13 scholarships offered by various bodies, embassies, and local and international centers, which targeted undergraduate students and researchers in the stages of postgraduate studies, master's, and doctorate; in different specializations and scientific fields, which benefited the university's students and researchers. These were announced through the Office of International Relations and Arab Universities Affairs, under the supervision of Dr. Jamal Badr, the center's director. The scholarships offered to undergraduate students included the Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT) and scholarships provided by the Egyptian-Japanese University Initiative for the academic year 2023/2024, based on the agreement between "Asyut University" and "Nagoya University in Japan," through obtaining scholarships to spend a semester or an academic year for the undergraduate stage, and the embassy The American University in Cairo, which targets students studying at public or private Egyptian universities for the academic year 2023/2024 as part of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program-Global UGRAD.
Assiut University also provided scholarships for researchers, master's, and doctoral students from Kanazawa University in Japan, offered by the Japanese government, and the scholarship of Professor Mahmoud Qassem offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which is a scholarship in pharmacy aimed at providing the opportunity to conduct research and continue their training in Germany.
The university also provided several scholarships for undergraduate students and researchers together, which included the Erasmus 2023/2024 scholarship, allowing undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students to travel for a semester as part of the student exchange program with "Alexandru Ioan Cuza University" in Romania, from February 26 to June 30, 2024, based on the agreement between the two universities.
The grants also included the Erasmus grant for faculty members of Assiut University to travel to "Alexandru Ioan Cuza University" in Romania, as part of the "Erasmus+KA107" call for the mobility of faculty members between "Assiut University" and "Alexandru Ioan Cuza University" for one The master's programs offered by the British Council, which target women working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to study at one of the leading universities in the United Kingdom, and the scholarships from the American Embassy in Cairo for the academic year 2024 under the name "Scientific Exchange Programs," which target high school and university students, teachers, researchers, and professionals, and the National Partnership Grants in Education offered by the British Council, which came as an opportunity to internationalize educational institutions, and the American Embassy in Cairo scholarships, which target women working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).STEM, the "Pioneers and Scholars of Egypt" program grant, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), implemented by the American University in Cairo (AUC) in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
