Launch of the Second Edition of the "Translate – Create" Competition to Support the Translation Movement in Egypt

As part of the Presidential initiative " Bedaya - A New Beginning for Human Building” aimed at investing in human capital and strengthening Egyptian identity, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Supreme Council of Universities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Center for Translation, have announced the launch of the second edition of the "Translate – Create" competition.

This competition aligns with presidential directives to encourage excellence in the field of translation among Egyptian university students. It seeks to harness the potential of students from faculties of Arts and Languages to translate books from various foreign languages into Arabic, contributing to the discovery of a new generation of translators and enriching the translation movement in Egypt.

The competition launched in October 2024, coinciding with the anniversary of Sheikh Rifa’a Al-Tahtawi’s birth. It aims to support young talents, enhance their skills, and encourage their positive engagement in academic and cultural activities.

Running from January 26, 2025, to March 27, 2025, the competition focuses on translating significant books that add value to the Arabic library, highlighting outstanding young translators within Egyptian universities.

The competition is open to postgraduate students, researchers, and academic staff at public, national, and private universities. Participants will submit proposals for translating valuable cultural books that serve a broad audience. The National Center for Translation will then select the best proposals based on specific criteria, with the winning translations later published as part of the center’s official publications.
