Research Abstract

The solubility of Ti and boron in liquid Al in equilibrium with TiB2 was measured by the method of decantation between 1100 and 730 deg C and by electromagnetic separation of the phases at 1000 deg C. The results presented in the usual form of solubility product are in agreement with those previously published and obtained by decantation. It is necessary to introduce the ratio %Ti/%B into the solubility product expression. If this ratio is greater than that in TiB2, the solubility product is given by the relation log (%Ti) x (%B) exp 2 = 1.11--1.039 x 10 exp 4 /T. If the ratio is less than that in TiB2, than log(%Ti) x (%B) exp 2 = --2.875--0.50 x 10 exp 4 /T. 9 ref.--EAA/P.
