Open Learning Unit

Admission criteria

For the students to be accepted, they must obtain bachelor's degree from faculty of commerce (Economics and management projects) section.

  1. The student must have a high school degree or any other intermediate and above intermediate technical diplomas, providing that the student must have obtained the degree 5 years ago, disregarding total grades.
  2. Students who have academic qualifications, university graduates, and high institutes.
  3. Prospective students, with same terms of acceptance, must follow the same steps.

Requirements

  1. High school or technical diploma success certificate.
  2. Birth certificate or a copy of it.
  3. 6 personal photos
  4. Military status
  5. Selection card (Original and copy)
  6. Payment transaction (copy)

Papers exchange

  1. The Open Learning Unit, head-quarted at faculty of commerce, will handle the student an envelope with documents. The student must fill in these documents, according to the acceptance guide and due date announced by the Unit.

Receiving papers

  1. The Unit specify a date to receive the documents from students. The documents must be handed over to the unit by the student or one of his\her relatives. The student must pay the fees of services and learning toolsat the same time.

For Services and Learning Tools

For one credit hour in return for learning services and tools, the student must pay extra fees rated with: 35 Pounds for Egyptian students and for non-Egyptians 35 dollars.

Learning Tools

Online learning tools provide learning service for any student at any place. These learning tools include: written lectures, prepared references, and recorded tap in different courses. In addition to organizing periodical symposiums to follow up students and answer any questions related to “the students' guiding system”. For each course, there will be one staff member or more in charge to prepare the materials for each course, follow up students, and check their understanding by contacting them directly.

Learning plan

  1. In order to obtain commerce bachelor's degree (Economics and Project Management sections), students must pass four years as a minimum number of years that the student may take in the learning program.
  2. The learning system follows the credit hours system in each semester.
  3. The number of the credit hours is 138 hours (8 semesters).
  4. The period of each semester is 15 weeks.
  5. Minimum number of registered courses must not be less than 3 courses and not more than 8 courses.
  6. The credit hours are divided into obligatory hours and elective hours. Obligatory hours are 96 hours, divided as the following:
  • 37 hour in the first year (2 semesters).
  • 24 hour in the second year (2 semesters).
  • 20 hour in the third year (2 semesters).
  • 15 hour in the fourth year (2 semesters).
  1. Elective hours are 42 hours, divided as follows:
  • 8 hours in second year from total (26 hours) optional among the 2 semesters.
  • 18 hours in third year from total (71 hours) optional among the 2 semesters.
  • 16 hour in fourth year from total (120 hours) optional among the 2 semesters, included in 6 modules with different specifications.

Examination system

  1. Theoretical exams are cinducted in all courses, by the end of each semester.
  2. Exam duration is 2 hours.
  3. Success and failing, are followed by the same terms of internal regulation of the faculty.
  4. The total grade of one-hour course-exams (one lecture per week), shall be 10 grades and 20 for the courses of more than one hour.
  5. Students grades are determined according to the following:
  • Excellent: 90% or more
  • Very Good: from 90% to 80%
  • Good: from 80% to 65%
  • Pass: from 65% to 50%

Failed students grades are determined according to the following:

  • Weak: from 50% to 35%
  • Very Weak: less than 35%
  1. The student transfers to the following, if he\she passes all the courses or fails in two courses of the year he/she enrolled in or in the previous years, in this case the student takes the exam according required material. Graduation will take place in January and July of each year. As for failed senior students (with less than 2 courses), their repeat exams will take place in January. In case they failed again, their exam will take place at the same time at the same year they failed.
  2. Available elective courses in the second year are 13 courses. Students must choose 4 of them (with a total of 8 hours). Available elective courses in the third year are 17 courses. Students must choose 6 of them (with a total 18 hours).
  3. Proposed learning plans are done according to choices of the second and third year, taking into consideration the previous requirements of the previous courses.
  4. Choices in fourth year are done according to the choice of the courses group of, each group consists of 8 courses and they must be related to each other and one of them must be related to economics and management of a specific type of projects. Students should be guided at the beginning of the second year.

These modules include six types of projects:

  • Transportation and public utilities projects
  • New Cities and Urban communities.
  • Craftsmanship and environmental projects
  • Power and mining projects
  • Organization and financial markets
  • Information systems and Computer

       These projects have been selected willingly, due to their importance in general development and local environment needs to it in the area of the university (Upper Egypt). In addition to the need of providing continuous learning chances for workers in these projects and scientific qualifications for learners from Upper Egypt residences, who are looking for working in it. These modules achieve for the learner choice chance.

  1. Students who succeed in all exams of all selected courses with total of 138 hour among the four years or more, bachelor degree in commerce (Economics and Project Management section) Assiut University.
  2. The graduate has the right to re-register to study other modules from the learning modules present in the learning plans, with the approval of faculty council.
  3. The following is the learning plan to be followed for Economics and projects management section (according to open learning system).
